I'm still spending too much on food.
I feel like my food spending has got out of control. If you have any tips, or if I should look on another thread please let me know. I'm spending way too much on food - last month was £250 on groceries and £180 on eating out. I thought I was pretty frugal, I cook everything from scratch, I head for the reduced section…

Welsh cheese tarts
At this time of year people make mince pies. I don’t but I do like the Welsh cheese tarts that my MiL made instead. No cheese involved - basically a jam tart with a topping of Victoria sponge. i quite fancy making some this year but I’m a singleton so even a smallish batch is going to be too much. Are they likely to be…

Weekly Flylady Thread 18 November 2024
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Hack Of The Day! (Or am I just tight?)
I just realised that when an emery board goes bald along the edges, you can cut it in half lengthways and use the middle! 😉

Re wash or not bother
As I was hanging out my second load of towels today. I discovered that contractors for my neighbours had been mixing cemet/concrete. Its was about 12ft away over a 6ft fence away from my washing. we have had a light wind today. I know cement is very fine. So not sure if I should re wash or just leave it as it is and hope…

Old Style Daily Wednesday 20 November 2024
Well, it's a definite sleepless night tonight, so I thought I might as well get up again. Blimey that was cold yesterday and actual heavy snow for the second or third time ever in this house. Shame it didn't stick. I know that's selfish but I love snow, always have even when it's inconvenient but then, I don't live in an…

Does anyone else feel like there has been another large increase in food prices lately?
My weekly grocery bill has gone up by quite a bit recently. I don’t think I am buying particularly different food than before. Rather ironically I have been trying to cook from scratch more to cut costs. I can’t tell if I’m just shopping badly or there really has been another price hike.
