Air Frying for 1 person
I am quite good at using the AF but so many recipes - I do change them around a bit - are for families. Also, so many seem to need to use frying pan and a lot of cheese. For a single old person trying not to use hob just AF SC and microwave as well as keeping costs down, using yellow sticker stuff and inventing I am…

rats
probably the wrong place to post... i bought dad a bird hanging feeder but nextdoors rats are climbing the pole and scoffing the fat balls. obviously we dont want rats. i was thinking, does the 'anti-climb' paint work with rats? or will i have to put poison down?

Shoes: how many pairs, and how to make them last
Not sure if this is quite the right home for this question, but reasoned it fell broadly in the 'old style' category of make-do and mend. How many shoes do you think it's reasonable for an adult to own, and how long should a good pair of shoes last? I walk pretty much everywhere, including to work, and find that I am…

Coin valuation
Looking through some old coins that were in a drawer, we have found an old (1860s) gold American dollar (no idea where it came from!). I know nothing about old coins, but looking online the values for this particular coin range from a few hundred to several thousand. I would imagine this one is nearer the lower end, but…

Cheapest way to stay warm in winter - electric blankets
As we get to that time of your when temperatures plummet, it’s time to remind people of the ultimate frugal heating hack that is electric blankets. The more space you try and heat, the more it’s going to cost you. So heating a big house costs more than a small house. A small house more than a room etc. taking this to the…

O/S Daily Monday 9th September 2024
Good morning, still dark but doesn't seem to be raining. Yesterday it rained all day. We weren't out, but defrosted the freezer and it's tidy - for now. Izzy, sorry to read that 'Kynren' was spoiled by the intrusive woman behind you. People just don't think do they. I' ve never been to see it , but people I know who have…

Weekly Flylady Thread 2nd September 2024
What is FLYLADY? Well,
it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that
housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless
but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the
support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We
also…

THE EXPLODING BAKERY-Bake It Slice It Eat It
This looks like a good book to have, but wondering what size tin they use. Cites the need to not have lots of different tins. Wondering if it is a size I have.

Lidl fruit and veg boxes
Popped into Lidl this morning, don't go there very often. Thrilled to find there were four of these boxes and they were happy for me to buy two. Now I have lots of fruit and veg, so looking for ideas of how to use in the next couple of days. Bananas, strawberries and grapes will be with yoghurt for breakfast. Apricots are…

Where was your teenage Saturday job?
I'm watching a C5 programme about the old High Street shops such as Woolworths, C&A, Radio Rentals etc. It got me remembering my teenage Saturday jobs: firstly on a market stall, then a Dolcis concession inside Burtons, and finally in our local McColls where my wage for all day Saturday and Sunday morning went up to £21.96…
