Here's a link to the last (and pretty old) thread that i can find, I thought it a good time as it's so cold out to start a discussion on one of our favourite cupboard staples.

I like it with a good blob of lemon curd on top and a sprinkle of chopped and toasted almonds.

That sounds lovely, I've added both to my shopping list. Thank you.

My mum makes it in the microwave with raisins. It's so milky and liquidy, I love it. But I'll have porridge with gratitude in pretty much any manner it's presented.

I soak mine overnight with a tiny pinch of salt, then cook & eat it in the morning with HM apple butter, greek yogurt & a sprinkle of nuts or seeds. OH has his with milk & jam.

I always cook our porridge on the stove. We use jumbo organic oats and oat milk. Either an apple or pear is cooked in with it. Then after they are topped with: blueberries or raspberries ( grown in the garden and frozen); pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds; chia seeds and milled flaxseed; and finally if we fancy it a couple of nuts - hazelnut, almond, Brazil, pecan and walnut.
We like to start the day healthy 😀

I sometimes grate a carrot and cook it in with the oats, add a sprinkle of either cinnamon or mixed spice, a few raisins and some chopped walnuts to finish. Carrot cake-flavoured porridge! You can add a drizzle of honey or other sugar if required but I find it sweet enough as it is. Apple is very nice in place of the carrot in this as well.

Chopped pear and a sprinkle of ginger or a bit of chopped stem ginger is also a great combo.

I make mine in the microwave with water - I find it’s still creamy.  Add a blob of  Biscoff type spread (crunchy variety), stewed apple and plain Greek yoghurt.

Grated carrot in porridge sounds like a WW2 rationing idea to eke out the sugar ration. It was used in cakes and Christmas pudding recipes too.

Mum mixed muesli and porridge oats for variety. I add porridge oats to muesli for economy.

I have porridge for breakfast for most of the year.
I soak the porridge oats in water then cook them in the microwave. I like evaporated milk on my porridge.

I add half of a small banana, and in summer a few berries from the garden. At present we have blueberries defrosted from the freezer, or few of the fruit seeds from a fresh pomegranate, and a teaspoon of mixed seeds.
Ground cinnamon is sweet and warming in porridge.
I like a teaspoon of black treacle or malt extract occasionally, for a change. DH likes golden syrup, but I find it too sweet.
100% Peanut butter is surprisingly good on porridge.
At Christmas I add a teaspoon of leftover brandy butter.
I remember my cousin complaining that at his school they put blackcurrant syrup in the porridge.

I soak my oats overnight in milk then heat up in the morning in the MW.  No sugar though as I add fruit - grated apple, sliced banana, halved grapes, raspberries, sultanas etc, whatever I have in stock.  Sometimes I'll have a blob of jam or lemon curd or a drizzle of honey in place of the fruit.  If eating 'naked' then a sprinkle of spice (eg cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger) is nice.  For extra creamy porridge add the last spoonful of cream or thick yogurt that might be lingering in the fridge.

@LotsOfTea - Not heard of the grated carrot addition before, I might give that a try!

Don't forget, you can use oats in other things too eg cereal bars, parkin, carrot cake etc.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
