Old Style Daily Wednesday 20 November 2024
Well, it's a definite sleepless night tonight, so I thought I might as well get up again. Blimey that was cold yesterday and actual heavy snow for the second or third time ever in this house. Shame it didn't stick. I know that's selfish but I love snow, always have even when it's inconvenient but then, I don't live in an…

Does anyone else feel like there has been another large increase in food prices lately?
My weekly grocery bill has gone up by quite a bit recently. I don’t think I am buying particularly different food than before. Rather ironically I have been trying to cook from scratch more to cut costs. I can’t tell if I’m just shopping badly or there really has been another price hike.

Old Style Daily Tuesday 19th November 2024
Good early morning all, it looks like we have a dusting of snow here, winter drawers on! I'm up early, can't sleep, not because I'm mithering but because I'm hopeful. DGD rang me last night (I haven't spoken to her while all this has been going on). She went to the school with DD, but didn't attend the meeting. Instead she…

Pocket repair
Unsure if this is the correct place but imagine there are helpful knowledgeable people who might give some suggestions how this can be repaired, it's from a jeans front pocket and I don't want to make the pocket depth shorter. Worn through by my phone I think. I can do rudimentary sewing, nothing fancy. Thanks. Hopefully I…

Freegan October Food Challenge
Aghast at the amount of food waste we're seeing by becoming Ol*o FWHs, we've decided to adopt a challenge for October: not to buy food. The rules: 1. We are allowed to buy milk. 2. We have 2 dozen eggs delivered every fortnight and we're not cancelling. 3. We are allowed to eat down freezer and cupboard supplies. 4. Child…

Weekly Flylady Thread 11th November 2024
Thank you, Valli, for last week's thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on
the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is
often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to
provide the support we all need and to make the…

Ever benefitted from a 'coupon fairy' who leaves coupons tucked by products in supermarkets?
I've been reading about one of our Forumites who's in the habit of tucking coupons next to the relevant product on supermarket shelves, ready for someone to find and use. It's an ace idea and I wondered: does anybody else does this? Or have you ever benefitted from it yourself? Ever spied a coupon left besides the…

Adapting curtains
Dies anyone know anything about this arrangement for hanging curtains. My daughter has ‘inherited’ it in her new home. She has some eyelet curtains she would like to have adapted for this window, but I’m at a bit of a loss and to advise her about the type of heading tape to attach and how to actually hang them (other than…

Washing curtains gone wrong
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what I did wrong. I decided to wash my blackout curtains for the first time since I bought them in the spring, because they were a bit dirty/dusty. The care label said delicate wash at 30 C. I did that but the lining has come off in places, so those parts are not blackout anymore and…

Good morning, it's the usual dampish start here. No plans for today, unless we go to Beamish Museum - we were going to go yesterday but it started drizzling so we didn't go. Hope everyone is ok and has a good day, take care folks.
