4G (5G?) router with Power over ethernet for rural location
Looking for advice for my parents. As I might be doing a "christmas installation" if i can find the right kit. Situation... * 1Mbit (average) broadband supplied via BT (about 11KM from local exchange) * Very poor (if any) mobile signal in the house (next to a river). Not enough houses nearby to be on any list for bringing…

Switching ISP
Hi I'm currently with TalkTalk FTTP and my contract ends on 24th January. I'm looking to switch to Vodafone FTTP (cheap and cheerful and been with them before with no problems). I've just realised I'm away with work 24-25th January. Am I ok to book new service install/switchover for the 23rd or will TT try to charge me for…

3 Mobile broadband in 2023/24?
I'm thinking of getting Mobile broadband next month and the signal looks good in the area (GL10), at least according to their website. I haven't seen any recent reviews though - any recommendations?

Keep existing phone number when moving to FTTP
I currently with Plusnet for FTTC, phone and broadband, contract runs out in about 3 months. The local area is all fibred-up by Cityfibre, and exclusively with Vodafone for (probably) another 6 months. I would like to keep my existing phone number. I am nervous about going with Vodafone, due to bad reports and review…

Shell Energy cancelling my order on activation date!
Two days before my activation date, I called Shell Energy to ask about my not-received-yet router. All agents reassured me that everything is OK and I might receive it the following day and they would call me back. Next day, I called again. All well, all reassuring, even suggesting me that in case of delay I will be…

Virgin Media Contract Issues
Bit of context. My mother (85) has Alzheimer's but is still independent and lives alone (support nearby, although i don't live nearby). I have power of attorney on finance/health. I manage her Virgin Media account but her contract ended recently and her monthly payment has gone from around £20 to £56 and an additional…

Renewed virgin contract but they say I haven’t
My Virgin contract was coming to an end, on the 12/12/23 I was offered a deal to renew online with a better price than I am currently paying so I clicked through and renewed. I have screen shots of this and an email confirmation with an order number. The next day I contacted them and they told me that I don’t have a new…

Vodafone 900MB £33 Black Friday
Just upgraded as existing full fibre customer coming off a low speed contract. Base package without the 4G backup (which doesn’t work well at ours anyway) Black Friday offering £36 a month at our address, then another £3 as an existing customer. Should help speed up game downloads. Keeping existing router, no new…

Temp reusing a Virgin Media box
Hi, Anyone know whether changing the login/account used on a box is allowed/okay to do? We have virgin broadband, but effectively because changing account holder the old account will be closed down and a new account for the new account holder with new equipment set up. Seems a faf and maybe the call centre person didn't…

Have you actually read your broadband contract?
In an idle moment I decided to read my Vodafone contract for my upcoming broadband installation (about half the price of Virgin without playing the Virgin Cancellation Games). There are two real gems of unfair contracts: Section 4.5 deals with pricing (which has broad exemptions from fairness as long as the offer is…

Hagging with Virgin Media and disconnection rules
My Virgin Media Broadband+TV contract finishes 6 December. I tried to haggle a new deal. I have been offered a slightly better broadband speed and price is a little better. I'm debating whether to take the offer though. I asked to start my 30 day disconnection period, and said I would think about the offer. The Retentions…

FTPP and digging for cable
I was supposed get FTPP last week - via CityFibre with Zen. But engineer turned up quite late in afternoon and claimed they can't do it as it requires a cable to be laid by digging my driveway and they can only do it in daytime due to legal reasons! Anyway, spoke with Zen and now waiting for an alternate installation day.…

Charged for broadband before installation
I opened an account with Community Fiber on Dec 9 and booked an installation appointment for the 19. When I received the confirmation email, the renewal date is on 8 Dec and each month is being charged in full, including the first, in which I will have 10, days less of service. There is no warning on their website alerting…

BT “Loyalty Penalty Contracts”.
My partner works in the NHS saving lives. It’s a full on job and she gets very little time to herself especially when you add in her daily 50 mile commute. The prospect of telephoning insurance, utility companies in the evening when a) they’re often closed or b) she’ll wind up in a 45+ minute queue is frankly too much to…

MSE News: Easier broadband switching for Virgin Media customers and others delayed
Broadband customers switching to or from cable networks including Virgin Media, Hyperoptic and others will still have to contact both their new and existing provider when moving across, as plans to introduce easier 'one touch' switching from April 2023 have been delayed. Read the full story: 'Easier broadband switching for…

Is there any real difference between ISPs when on FTTC?
Looks like they all use Openreach core network anyway, so is there a difference between Plusnet, Shell etc.? Of course, I understand modem/routers, prices, support will be different but what about the actual connection/speed?

BT landline deal
This is probably a cross over question so I apologise in advance. I recently changed over to a BT Landline deal due to being on a specific benefit, everything was fine until recently when there was a problem with the internet dropping out every 15 minutes which of course meant that the VOIP phones do not work. I did…

Is getting a BT line installed worthwhile or are there other, cheaper broadband solutions?
We're looking to move to a house which doesn't currently have a BT phone line. Is it worth paying the £140 to have one installed for broadband, or are there most cost effective solutions out there? The 4g signal seems to be quite reasonable.
