Which broadband?

I currently use BT for my broadband, but the other day I decided to look at their deals and see if they had a different package I could choose. I'm paying them £56 a month, so when I saw this deal it looked much better.

I selected the package but when I went to the checkout to complete the purchase the details had suddenly changed. It was no longer £34.99 a month but a whopping £74.99 a month. I tried to ring BT. They said they would answer my call, but I would have to wait for 45 minutes. At this point I thought no. I'm going to look into other broadband deals. I want to give up my landline. It hasn't worked since BT put me on digital voice and BT won't do anything about it without charging me a fortune. I'm now confused about getting the best deal for broadband with excellent customer service. Can anyone recommend something please. Customer service is my number one priority.

I recently went with Youfibre if it's available in your area? No issues. I moved my Parents onto it and a colleague at work.

If the charge is nearly £75 when you get to the checkout you are not just taking broadband but must be adding other products, ‘unbreakable WiFi ‘ for example adds quite a bit ( the 4G mobile back up in case the main broadband fails ) a phone package adds cost ( unlimited calls are £12-£18 , £18 if you just click , £12 if you call and negotiate ) etc , you need to check the products in your basket , or better , persevere and speak to a representative, that way you can tell them you are considering other providers because of the cost , and see what they can do on price .

I have not added any other products at all.

Finally spoke to someone at BT. They couldn't really explain why the charge was coming up, but they offered me a much better deal for the price I'm paying now. An engineer is coming out free of charge to fix the landline problem.

I fixed the landline problem myself. I'm an ex radio amateur and I have some education in electronics. It comes in handy sometimes.

Just booked to go with Virgin Media yesterday on their M500 package (min guarantee is circa 250Mbps). Will work out about £22 pm after £25 cashback and first 3 months free over 18 months i think. The best BT could do for me was Full Fibre 100 ( min guarantee 100Mbps) for £29.99 per month. They won't budge below this. Been with BT for over 10 years and tbf their CS has improved in the last few years and last time i stayed with them at a slight cost but the gap is now too big pricewise. I've just got everything crossed that my switch goes smoothly and i never have to contact VM for anything major over the 18 months.

What was the problem and how did you fix it, for the benefit of other forum users who might also have a similar problem and find this topic.
