Which broadband provider is better?

Hey

I'm looking at getting broadband as a new customer. I can't get virgin media as it unavailable in my area. My family have had problems with BT previously. But I don't know if Plusnet, brysk or any of those new providers are any good?

We have previously been with Sky and I don't think I've had any problems with them.

Any help appreciated

Thanks guys

Are you getting FTTP or FTTC? The former is incredibly stable so you shouldn't have issues with whoever you go with over connection.
Plusnet is fine, internet is faultless. I can't seem to set up a direct debit with them though 🤷‍♀️

What's FTTP and FTTC? I've never heard that before. Only had broadband that family has and never changed it.

Just checked the meaning of FTTP and FTTP. I don't think I'll get the choice of deciding

I was with Plusnet, no issues but a pretty poor router, same with NowTV broadband.  Have used Sky in the past and again no issues.

Moved to full fibre recently with Zen and all good.

Plusnet is owned by BT and is the low cost arm based out of Sheffield. They have been about for decades so are not a new provider. They do however come out well in the annual customer surveys up with the likes of BT, Sky etc.

Been with then on and off over the years and for the last 3. Good service throughout.

If you need a phone line then understanding which of FTTC and FTTP is available is important as they do not provide one with FTTP.

FTTC is fibre to a street cabinet and copper to your house via a traditional BT socket.
FTTP is fibre all the way to the home and is via a new type of connection called an ONT

What speeds are you being offered from Plusnet, this will help to tell which type of connection they will be offering.

Plusnet is offering 66mb. For now it will only be a couple of devices that I'll be using. The main one being my work pc. But further down the line I'll have more devices connected to it

That will be FTTC then, just check it includes the phone line if you want one as they now offer FTTC with and without, sometimes only without.

Also check the different term lengths, recently renewed mine and 18 months was cheapest, 12 months next and 24 months the most expensive. Even more so when you consider 12 months means you only get 1 price increase and can re-contract back down to a lower price.

It's actually from MSE broadband checker. It's broadband only without the line which I prefer because I'm not keen on the new digital voice thing.

Is this worth it? I might ring them just to see how it will be installed, if it will be through the BT socket or like how virgin media do it.

It will be via a copper line into the house and a BT master socket.

What broadband is in use today? If it is a supplier over Openreach network then it will be the same existing cabling.

Plusnet do not have a digital voice service so the only option for a new Plusnet customer is broadband only
