A decent 'emergency' cheap mobile phone - recommendation?
OH needs to send her iPhone off for repair under AppleCare warranty & as it's off to Czech there's a 10 day turnaround. Looking to see what's decent AND CHEAP just to get her by for this timeframe. She bought an iPhone 6S for £35 from some black website (I'm pretty sure it has black in the name. She said she'd heard decent…

New ring door bell
I see theres a new slimmer model out means the holes won't line up for the wall. I heard there's backplates you can buy but can't see any. It says in Google my current one stops working in 2029. But seemingly older models still work without software updates. Anybody else had this issue? Don't really want holes in wall but…

What free Ad blocker do you recommend?
I installed Total Adblock as a Google Extension yesterday, however, it keeps giving me pop ups and pages which open advertising their paid version. I also suspect it causes YouTube videos to halt since they weren't doing that before, although I have another adblocker called Adblock for Youtube.

Replacing 38" Freesat HD TV
I am looking for a TV with a better picture, as my Panasonic Vierra is about 15 years old. I have Freesat and realise that most TV's now are Freely. Although the future of Freesat is in doubt, am I right in saying some people who have changed from Freesat to Freely have not liked the change? Also, is now an iffy time to…

2 bay hard drive enclosure - cenmate. Any of you good people own one?
Like so. I'm aware there's a 2 bay RAID version of this. I'm specifically not asking about that one. I don't have enough of an understanding about RAID at this moment in time. I'm also asking about a hard drive enclosure rather than a NAS as I'm not yet in the position to go down the NAS route, certainly not without…

Looking for a hybrid Smart monitor (work + TV)
Hi I work from home, and ordinarily, I would only be looking for a work monitor. However, I want something that would double up as a TV for in case my parents visit (e.g. needs a remote and be a smart monitor). I have no plan or desire to buy a TV, and I'm not a gamer. I'm wondering what some of you use and how you feel…

Ring 3 - Doorbell Alert
I am having a problem with my battery operated Ring 3 Doorbell. For the last six months or so the Ring Alert no longer rings on my Android phone. Some technical Qs about e-bikes.
Q1 - batteries. I understand these have built-in BMS circuits to monitor and protect them during charging. After they have been charged and installed on the bike, is it then purely the +&- contacts that do the job? Ie, the bike's electronics work out the charge state for the display, and doesn't have any particular comms…

Can I safely delete an old backup file from a USB HDD?
About 18 months ago I bought a replacement PC after my old one died. I had kept it backed up to a 750 GB USB HDD and the firm I bought the replacement from used the backup file to set it up. They didn't delete the backup from the USB HDD. I set up the new PC to backup to the same HDD and it now appears to be almost full.…

Odd window behaviour for Chrome and Edge
Chrome insists on locking the window to the top right corner of the screen. Edge insists on locking the window to the top edge of the screen, but I can move it around from side to side. If I try to move either down to the middle of the screen I get a menu showing move, minimise, maximise size etc, but none of those options…

Can't get Office 2019 to load on new W11 laptop?
I've just got a new, shiny Acer 18 inch laptop running W11. I have a legal, bought and paid for, install of Office 2019 that I've used on 2 older, laptops that works fine. It's been removed from those machines. It ran fine on a Dell running W11 last week… I've installed it on the Acer, but none of the app will stay open…

Scanning function within Google Drive
After seeing a YouTube video about it I've just tried the scanning function within Google Drive It's very impressive, just point your camera at a number of items laid out on the floor and it'll scan them all automatically and can cope with the documents being laid at all different angles. I think it can find duplicates…
