Scanning negatives and slides
Hi all
Looking to get some guidance and to suitable equipment for this, I am very limited on budget, say >£ 80.00
I have seen these light pads where I can mount my phone on a bracket over the top, but nit sure if these are any good?
If anyone could point me in a good direction with some product links, I'll be very appreciative
Thanks in advance
David

At the moment I,m looking into this too.
The only place I've found they are on sale is Amazon and Ebay.
Seen 2 types, one like you mention. The other has screen showing the slide/negative to enable a transfer to a computer.
A lot look the same and have a big range in price.
I would like to buy in a store or as last resort from a normal on line store such as Currys so I hope others will help us in that.

I purchased this one:
Worked fine.

Hi Tadley
Do these really work OK for both negatives and slides?
What about the software needed? I saw a similar one, but the 'free' software needed a subscription of £ 50.00 to 'allow' images to be saved....

PS
This is the sort of thing.

The one I posted had the addition of the stacked slides feeder which caught my eye.

Does this need an app? Again, concerned about this if it needs a subscription

Your question has been answered on Amazon's page :)
"Photos are stored on SD memory card. To transfer digitized photos, simply connect the scanner to any USB port on your PC or Mac using a USB cable and put the scanner in "USB transfer mode", you can easily transfer JPG files to your computer for saving, sharing and editing."
SD Card is not included.
What this means is it shows up in "This PC" as Drive D (or whatever) and you can copy the files off. You may be able if you have SD Card reader plug said card into there without putting the scanner in any other mode. But that depends on the device.0 -
I've got something similar that I bought from Maplins, but rather than having an SD card slot it just connects to my PC via USB and saves directly to the PC using the provided software. Comes with a tray for some 35mm slides, and another one for a strip of 35mm negatives.
If you've got a load of old family snapshots to scan, it's up to the job, if you're scanning a load of high quality images then they're a little lacking. But, you could go with the cheap one, scan them all in, and if there are some that you'd like in better quality, there are services that would scan them for you. Or, get a better scanner then sell it on once you've scanned all the slides.

I scanned many slides and negs a few years ago. The quality from these dedicated slide scanners is very poor - its really just a photo of the slide.
Instead I used a standard A4 flat bed scanner which had a holder for the slides/negs. The quality is good. You may be able to find such a thing second-hand on eBay for very little.
