Scanning negatives and slides

I did slides for many years and it was my eldest who bought me the scanner. My youngest took them and turned them into a coffee table book.
I have also scanned hundreds of photos into the computer - when I wrote my book youngest used his skills (He is a CG Supervisor and Art Director) and restored the older Black and White pictures.

Thanks a lot, did this work well? I have 35mm negatives and slides to transfer and this is well within my budget, I would prefer something like this rather than a light box and mobile phone....

I use to have to regularly scan slides and negatives, I found all these dedicated devices much too slow if you have a decent quantity. Ended up rigging a lightbox, masked the area of the negatives and photographed on a dslr with a close up lens. took literally a tenth of the amount of time and better quality

Thanks for this, I don't have a dslr camera, so looking at a sub £ 100 (best my budget will afford) alternative.

If you have a smartphone it's likely to be better than a cheap camera or scanner

I agree, but for negatives, it is better to use a lightbox and camera holder than buy an all in one scanner?

Yes, With black card make a mask to surround the image area. With negatives you will need to reverse the image to positive in photoshop or other image software.
I use to do hundreds at a time and found scanners too slow. Doing it with a set up light box took seconds for each one.

That's really interesting. Would the following be suitable?

yes, looks suitable but do use black card to mask the extraneous area or you will likely get flare which will degrade the image.

Thank you so much for your help and guidance. I'll order these and do you have any guidance about the camera settings to use on a Galaxy S23 phone?
