The Top Fixed Interest Savings Discussion Area
I'm interested in people's thoughts and recommendations for the best fixed interest accounts. With BOE interests rates recently starting to increase we have to consider the desirability of long term fixed interest savings. Since withdrawals are usually not permitted before the end of the fixed period, such general interest…

Tax on interest
I am still getting my head round the change to my personal allowance code and the tax I am paying on my savings interest. I have added together all the interest that I earned in the tax year 24/25. I certainly go over the £1000 but it still is less than the £700 odd amount over that HMRC say. Most of my regular savers add…

Bad time to buy stock?
I have been moving money into stocks but realized that both the S&P500 and the FTSE100 are at an all time high which did not bother me at first since it is possible for them to still grow in one year's time. After checking the graphics historically I noticed that nearly the whole growth stems from 6 months of increases up…

Interest on savings - can I just pay the tax upfront?
For the first time in my life I am looking at making over £1000 in interest on my savings in 2024-2025 (from 1-year fixed rate accounts I have recently opened). I am not looking for ways to avoid paying tax, but I absolutely dread having it taken from my salary via my tax code. Many reasons for this, not least being…

ii new platform plans 2026
Received an email flagging new plan charges to be introduced February next year. In my case my current £21.99 tariff covering ISA, GIA, SIPP accounts will reduce to £14.99 (Plus plan) with improved trading and FX charges and ability to tack on family accounts ( up to £100k) for no additional charge. In these inflationary…

Kuflink P2P - changing Ts & Cs
Anyone else here receive their new terms & conditions? Key points include them NOT using their own capital to cover any losses, & also something about them not taking on the first 5% of loans 🧐 Sounded to me like nothing positive for an investor, & as a consequence, we will be withdrawing our funds (not a significant sum,…

Best way of funding the 4 yrs before State Pension
Does anyone have thoughts about the best way for me to fund the four years before my State Pension begins? I have £190k in cash savings and £79k in investments. ISA and pension allowances are filled up this year. I’m mortgage free, married, and have a very modest lifestyle. My only income is from the interest from these…

Estimated Savings Interest for Current Tax Year
I received a shock when HMRC changed my tax code recently, saying I owe them almost £1000 in estimated interest on my savings for the current tax year and this means that I have to pay it over a three month period which will drastically reduce my income between January and March. I had not realised they could do this…

I received some RSUs from a previous employer a few years ago. Recently sold these so have just under $10k that I need to withdraw from E*trade and then want to transfer to any GBP account. Paying tax on stock income
I have now made more than £3k from buying and selling stocks and am now thinking about how to pay tax on this. 1. I assume I would pay tax on this when I do a self assessment next year after the current tax year has ended. I don't need to buy tax right now. Is this right? 2. If I buy stocks now and make a loss, I can set…

Putting Money Aside I Can't Touch
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on saving habits and building a bit more self-discipline. Each month I round up my spending in my Chase account, which usually comes to around £100. The problem is…I end up withdrawing it every time. I also put some cash aside in a tin, but I usually dip into that every couple of…

Where is Everyong Hiding Money?
I don't understand this. I've never really had enough cash in good bank accounts to have £1000 in interest but now HMRC have written to me to say they're going to tax me as I have gone over that threshold now. I would say my savings are modist but maybe I have more than I think. Most of my savings are in differnet accounts…

BBSI Untaxed interest list query
Hi All, My requested list for 23-24 and 24-25 contains so many errors I really don't know where to start or who to approach first. I requested the list because I was shocked at the interest they claimed I earned 24-25 On looking at the list I'm finding yes they have estimated based on the previous tax year as expected, BUT…
