Restructuring Finances Following Redundancy
Hi All, I just came through a difficult redundancy after many years with the same firm. I am fortunate to own my home with no mortgage and all debts are cleared. I am also very fortunate to have another job lined up at a slightly increased salary. I am 42 and my pension pot sits at circa £140k. I want to finally sort out…

Understanding SA figures
A question for those that understand these things before I contact HMRC and make my ignorance even more well known. Asked in May to fill in a Self Assessment form for 204/25, no problem. Only change was I was left some money and had untaxed interest to declare. Otherwise company and state pensions. Figures have come back…

Can I stop submitting Self Assessment if only for savings interest?
Hi Everyone, Just trying to check my understanding is correct. For many years I've submitted an annual self assessment tax return purely for the purposes of paying tax on savings interest (over the PSA). For some reason I was under the impression that I needed to do this regardless of the amount. However the current advice…

Emerging markets allocation (revisited)
A short while ago there was a thread here discussing Emerging Markets Allocation (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6672348/emerging-markets-allocation ) that was closed at the request of the OP shortly before they left the forum. I though that the research that was linked in the first post of that thread…

ISA v Savings
Hello all, I have an ISA with 20K in it and the year bonus is ending and the new rate is pants. I was looking at moving it and the best transfer rate I can get is 3.6% (so yearly interest is £720). I can open a new savings account at a rate of 4.5% which will generate £900 interest. When I pay tax on that I will be left…

My S&S diary - investing from February 2026
After sitting to learn about investing into the stock market, I finally jumped in. The 6th of February 2026. I am writing the diary for myself to remember the journey. I could see that I, probably the same as others, tend to only feel comfortable to tell others about what we do, when we are doing fine with S&S, and choose…

CSH2 and new ISA Rules on MMF's
So with the new ISA rules coming in next April and the stipulation that savers cannot have all their investments in MMF's if they want to avoid the taxman, I just wanted to double check that CSH2, being an ETF, is definitely not considered to be a form of MMF under the new rules, given it tracks the SONIA rate etc...

Better to move savings from a Cash ISA for this Lloyds offer?
Hi all, Lloyds have offered a £75 bonus if I open a savings a/c at 3% AER with £2001 for 6 months. To do it, I'd move money from a flexible Cash ISA at 4.19%. I'm a basic rate tax payer but am within the £5K interest allowance. Is this something I should consider? (My mind is muddled with the math.) Many thanks. :)

Hey all, I'm looking for some advice about opening some savings accounts.
