INVESTMENT SHARE SCAM

Options
Hi

I thought it important to share this..

I have recently been the victim of a Investments Scam...

I saw an ad on facebook about a investment knowledge and opportunities and joined an Investment Group on Whatsapp from this advert.

The Investment group claimed to  be from a reputable firm in the US,  with the advisor being the main person from the firm..

At this stage they said that the reason for the group was to give you a free quarter of investment advice/opportunities to see the value of the company, to then ask you to sign a contract with the firm at the end of this trial.
.
The first investment opportunity I decided to use a small amount of money and see if this would be validated, and it was, the return was reasonable on a small amount.

The next one they sent through was a different stock, so I decided to take a bigger risk and invest £15k, and to start with all seemed to be going well, whilst they kept me informed of the progress of the stock and the impending good news that the business was about to receive, which is why the stock price would rise..

They kept saying the date of the news release would be the day to maximize the profits, however a week before this date the stock crashed from $30 a share to $3 a share in the matter of a minute, thus loosing all my money.

Doing some research I later found an article on line, highlighting the danger of this stock and that it was involved in a Pump and Dump scheme..

This is my own foolish fault and I am kicking myself I have lost all my money with no chance of getting it back, but wanted to highlight this to you so you can potentially make other people aware of such scams...

I broke my rule massively, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is...

Whilst I sit in my own self pity, hopefully you can help stop other people being affected by this.

I hope this helps

I can give you another rule to live by... ignore ALL Facebook ads!!  There are too many scams on there, it's just not worth the risk.

Lots of warning signs were present. The facebook advertising and only being able to invest via this one broker for a start. Signing a contract for investment advice isn't unusual, but it is when the company isn't registered too provide finanicial advice in the UK.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Pretty much any and all investment ‘ads’ on Facebook are scams. It never ceases to amaze me how prolifically successful these criminals are in managing to convince people to give them money.

Although there are frequent warnings on here about the danger of throwing money at schemes promoted on social media, if you're hoping to raise awareness then it would be worth naming names and being more specific....
There are repeated ads I see on Facebook and Instagram that have famous names like Peter Hargreaves, Terry Smith, bizarrely Nick Leeson and others using AI generated content to promote schemes. Really find it incredible that these companies are promoting their AI capabilities yet still find it impossible (or maybe lack of will) to actually stop these basic scams.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

It needs to become regulated whereby social media companies are not allowed to publish material advertising any sort of investment. Simple solution and one I’m sure will never be implemented.

One of the largest hurdles would be the loss of advertising revenue for FB.

I would like to see someone find a legitimate investment advert on Facebook, and that’s pretty much my point. These platforms should not be allowed to promote these types of product unless they can keep the lid on illegitimate/fake ads. It’s completely out of control.
