33% domestic stocks bias
What are experienced investors thoughts on “The optimal weights remain near one-third domestic stocks and two-thirds international stocks regardless of age—with no material fixed income allocation” https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4590406 EDIT: would one use FTSE350 for uk domestic stocks?

How can I get my nest egg to work a bit harder?
Seasons greetings everyone. Currently I'm in the process of financially preparing myself for a reasonably hefty inheritance tax bill. Who knows when the day will come, but one way or another on top of having the bereavement to deal with I'm looking down the barrel of well into a 6 figure IHT bill. I've spoken with various…

Cahoot a/c upgrade
Apologies if this is old news and I'm late to the party but had my eye off my savings for a while, but my Simple Saver 12 months expired and saw for the first time the Account Upgrade option which basically keeps all the same account info be signs up again for another 12 months at the 4.40% AER. How simple and how useful…

yougov.finance bribe
It's one of these almost-too-good-to-be-true stories, but it is true. First mentioned by @Bridlington1 in the Natwest Regular Saver thread, but I reckon this deserves its own thread as it could be of interest to those who have at least 10 current, credit card and savings accounts and not everyone reads the Natwest RS…

iWeb Change to Scottish Widows
I've just logged into my iWeb account and noticed a banner that they are now going to be known as Scottish Widows sharedealing which will also give access to the Scottish Widows app. https://www.iweb-sharedealing.co.uk/changes.html I wonder if this name change will increase their reach and profile to gain more customers…

Woodford compensation and No Win No Fee fees
I joined the class action with Harcus Parker for redress from the Woodford catastrophe which to cut a long story short was not heard in court and instead redress was made via FCA. I received the compensation which was a small fraction of what was lost and was very surprised to receive a bill from Harcus Parker for almost…

Being nosey... How many Regular Saver accounts do you have?
For ease of finding the RS League Table that Bobblehat compiles, I've added it to this 1st post. The updates will appear here periodically rather than embedded in the thread and a post will be made to the latest page to announce an update. Please send your data as usual and it will appear in the next update when it's…

Tax on stocks income
I am trying to understand the way income tax works with stocks. I read that the capital gains tax depends on the income tax band that you are in from your job. But what I am struggling to understand is whether income from shares can.. push you into another tax bracket? I looked this up online and the response was a…

Can you help me understand my tax code?
Like many others I have received a tax code change relating to underpaid tax on interest. Can I check my understanding of how this works? 1. My tax code for 2025/26 starts the year assuming I will earn the same interest as the actual interest I earned in 2023/24 2. This time of year HMRC have received all of the…

Obtaining BBSI from HMRC
With a few accounts in banks and building societies, I was hoping to check that my reconciliation is accurate, and the same total that is sent to HMRC by banks and building societies. Is the information used by HMRC available? I reviewed my tax records and cannot see it; I only see the numbers I submitted on the SA form.…

Top Easy Access acs Ranked: Top of The Pots - **No Chat**
I've had a few suggestions/requests to start a separate 'No Chat' thread, as the ToTP list gets drowned in 'chat' in the 'Top Easy Access discussion' thread. The aim is to maintain an easy-to-find ranked list of the c.Top 10, available to open & manage online, Easy Access accounts, with links. The purpose of this thread is…

Spring Savings
Well looks like they are in the middle of a major mess up. On my tablet app this morning there were 6 notifications of transactions for small amounts coming in and out of accounts none of which mine (the last 4 digits of the account Number was quoted in each notification) all timed around 0530 this morning. Strange to…

Interest reported to HMRC in wrong year
I've just found that Paragon and JN Bank have both reported interest to HMRC in 24/25 that isn't taxable until 26/27 (because its been added to a fixed term savings account). Consequently, that interest will be taxed in 24/25, which is going to cost me about £600 in incorrect tax. Not sure if all banks are the same, or its…

Fixed Rate non-ISA Bonds, straddling 2 tax years: new 22 per cent tax rate on interest
I have noticed this. (I think). Does anyone have any comments? There have been several prior threads on this site, about when Interest Income should be reported to HMRC for tax purposes, when a Bond is, say, a 2- year Bond. And there is no access to any of it until Maturity. (Not even any option to take it with a Penalty…

Is this a Gilt/Bond or am I reading it wrong
i'm trying to diversify my portfolio. I have maxed out stocks shares isa, a few single US stocks, vanguard fund, bitcoin (but only a small % of my portfolio)... I was trawling through YT looking at investing ideas in uk and came across Gilts. So my basic understanding is you put X amount in a gilt, leave it for X years…
