My car insurer
Hi, I had a car accident of no fault to me Thurs 10th can someone give me a bit of advice please. I did the normal exchange of details and went our different ways. I contacted One Call insurance (my insurer) and told them I had an accident and had to be assessed before a file handler will take up the case. My car was…

Car insurance and new employer
I have changed jobs and wonder if I need to notify the insurance company? I have the same job title I just work for the council rather than a bank. Will this make any difference to them? I don't really want to laye an admin fee to change this and I made a large claim last month so I'm worried they will charge me hundreds…

Brooksdale offering to help claim PPI extra refund
Hi, I've recently received an email from this firm - I've checked them out https://brooksdale.co.uk/ and they seem legit, but thought the deadline had passed in 2019 for claiming this. I'll probably prefer to follow this myself if I can rather than use a firm as their fee seems hefty. You can contact HMRC direct rather…

Reclaim Tax on PPI claims where payouts went to Official Receiver?
I had 6 x small-ish (good enough for me) PPI payouts at end of last year so I believe I can now reclaim the tax back. However, 2 x of the PPI payouts went straight to Official Receiver due their age (historic bankruptcy). Do I add these figures also on R40? It really doesn't make much difference to the amounts as not huge…

PPI TAX & BANKRUPTCY
Hi apologies if this has been asked before but i am sick of being bombarded with ads for PPI tax claims. I was made bankrupt in 2007, i was awarded a 12k PPI payout in 2104 which of course went to the official receiver (i wasn't told this when i claimed despite being totally honest about the bankruptcy with the claim firm)…

PPI R40 claim for higher rate earner - will I owe tax to HMRC?
Hi All, I'm looking at whether I can claim any tax back on my PPI payout with the R40 form, but worried I might end up owing HMRC. I received two PPI payouts in the 2019/20 tax year which totalled £12,902.83 (less the fees) and had a total interest element of £8,513.60. The lenders withheld £1,702.72 in tax at 20%. I also…

Car insurance hike
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience recently. Last year my car insurance came to £345. I have just received a renewal quote of £770! In disbelief, I started looking on comparison sites and the cheapest I can find now is £650ish. I have not had any claims or penalties. I have 14 years no-claims bonus…

Boiler insurance
Hello, I feel a bit stupid making this post, but here goes. I have a plan with Domestic and General where I pay £27.61 a month. I get £700 towards the cost of a new boiler if it breaks down. I took this out after speaking to the manufacture of my boiler, Worcester Bosch, thinking I was being wise. Here is why I feel…

R40 Claim
Settlements on upheld PPI claims made on my late husband's mis-sold policies were made to me, his widow, in the tax year 2018/2019: my husband died in 2017. I submitted an R40 Claim in respect of taxed statutory interest in March 2022. I received a response from HMRC in October 2022 which stated it was my husband's income…

HMRC - PPI Tax Claim
Help your claim helped me claim back quite a bit of PPI, which is why I was happy for them to try and claim back overpayments in tax. I recently received Viva £34.00 back, but HMRC then sent me a new calculation for 2018 stating I owe them £1800 as my interest payments where in excess of £10,000 for that year as instructed…

cold call PPI
First post here so go easy on me! Just had a cold call from a PPI company saying I’m owed £500ish and they’re wanting to send me a cheque. They’ve taken some very basic details (none banking) and I’ve signed a contract. They already had my address and income info. Googling the company, it doesn’t look like it’s been around…
