Hi, I've recently received an email from this firm - I've checked them out https://brooksdale.co.uk/ and they seem legit, but thought the deadline had passed in 2019 for claiming this.
I'll probably prefer to follow this myself if I can rather than use a firm as their fee seems hefty. You can contact HMRC direct rather than use this firm, which they do point out on their website to be fair.
Anyone else had this email or used them?

Firstly, if you were referring to HRMC than its not an extra refund.
Some of your PPI redress included interest. Interest is taxable in the UK but you get a personal savings allowance which is effectively a nil rate band. i.e. if you were taxed and your total interest (from all sources) was within the personal savings allowance, then you can ask HMRC to refund the tax paid. Really easy to do and no need to get a claims company attached to your HMRC account (which is notoriously difficult to get removed).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.1

No doubt lots of people will have had the email.
Whether many will have used them to do something you can easily do yourself is debatable.
Given they can only make a valid claim if you provide them with all the relevant income details for the tax year(s) in question you would be correct to say it's something you can do yourself.
But if the statutory interest was paid before 6 April 2019 then you are wasting your time.1

I think these people must be sending lots of emails at the moment. There have been two in the last month to my late husband's email address. He has been deceased nearly 5 years and to the best of my knowledge never made a PPI claim. I have ignored them.2025 Decluttering Campaign 1013/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

I keep on getting Brooksdale e-mails with a comment that I have a potential refund of tax of over £11,000 !! I did have a PPI refund several years ago of around £7,000 and I am wondering where they get their info from and of course is it genuine?1

Given that tax is only deducted from the statutory interest element of a PPI refund I'm struggling to how that could be possible!normanpluk said:I keep on getting Brooksdale e-mails with a comment that I have a potential refund of tax of over £11,000 !! Thanks for this (and everyone else who commented). I take it that there really is no £11,000 'possibly' available, I certainly wouldn't have these details anymore. What I'm wondering is if there can be no more claims, what's in it for this Brooksdale company? Loldunstonh said:Firstly, if you were referring to HRMC than its not an extra refund.

It validates the list of suckers who are willing to use claims companies for anything and everything.

They get their name added to your tax account with HMRC as an agent and any tax refund you get now or at any point in the future gets paid to them. They then take a cut (or the whole lot with some of the scams going on).poshpaws_007 said:

Thanks I will contact HMRC direct and see what they have to say but all your replies just sum up what I felt!0
