PPI TAX REBATE

Hi, i am new to this forum.  I was contacted by a company called Reclaim now about a PPI pay out i had in 2019. He said at the time HMRC taxed us on this money and now we can re-claim the tax back. They sent me an HMRC form to fill out , sign and return to them. I need to give out sensitive information on this form such as my NI no etc. I am not comfortable sending this to a third party. Please advise if anyone on this forum has done this , got a tax refund for a PPI payment and what is the best and safest way to apply for this re-fund. Many thanks

Do it directly.

No need to pay someone to fill out the form for you as you already have all the information.

Did you complete a Self Assessment return for the tax year in question?

If not then it's form R40.  You need to provide details of all taxable income, including the statutory interest and tax deducted.

No, haven't done anything like that. I work 9 - 5 for a company so never had to deal with tax issues. Hence i'm not familiar with tax forms etc. will download the R40 form. Thank you.
