I received a phone call today from Ingenious Legal. They explained that I was due a refund for a PPI claim from 2018 as HMRC had taxed me on my redress. I did however explain to the lady that I had never done any PPI claims, At least not since 2011. She went to to say that my details wouldn't have come up on their system unless I was owed money and proceeded to tell me that my cheque was being held with them.  I asked her how much was the cheque for, she answered by saying its normally around £200-£300. Alarms bells went off straight away, as if they had my cheque there, then surely they should know the exact amount. I was also asked for my email address but I told her I don'tbgive it out to companies or people I don't know. She said she would call me back but I have since blocked the number and checked Companies House which showed this company had gone into liquidation. BE CAREFUL with this company as I am almost certain this is a scam.

I have just received a similar call although they said they had sent a cheque out in 2019 to a house we no longer lived. That had all my contact details and said they owed me around £400. I asked for details of the account linked with such a payment and they could not answer. They are calling me back later today. 

The form they emailed me asked me to electronically sign to allow “making tax returns simple Ltd” to be the responsible agent for my tax returns. Sounds like a big scam to me.
