Spending money under EPA.
My mother has recently been moved to a care home following a stroke, currently under CHC, although this will be reassessed soon. I have EPA and so far have not taken any funds from her account beyond household bills and personal items. I would like to know if I can use her money beyond this. For example, I have run up a…

Ruby Wedding Gift Ideas
It's my parents' ruby wedding in a month or so, and I'm looking for ideas for a really special gift for them. My brother and sister and I will be clubbing together, probably we'll come up with around £300. My parents are already planning some kind of trip themselves, so we're really looking for an item to give them.…

loan insurance for over 60
I want a simple loan insurance. Just life, no frills and just for the life of the loan. I have looked but all offer employment cover and say that the loan payment date must be before I retire ( too late, am already a lady of leisure). The over 50 life ones do not work out any cheaper than the insurance offered by the loan…

Despite e-mails, text and Facebook messages inviting her, one of my nieces still hasn't visited us, so we have her Christmas present still here. Maybe I shall just keep it till she turns up, even if that is next Christmas. Then there's the usual lack of gratitude from those who can't be bothered to drop me a thank you -…

Riser recliner chair
Hi everyone After a bit of help here. I bought my nan a riser recliner chair, and she has had it for a few years, so it's time for a replacement. She tells me that my great aunt has one that operates with a manual "wheel" and not with electricity - this is appealing to her as she dreads the thought of being all reclined…

Club 55
I see both Scotrail and Arriva Wales have club 55 schemes again this Spring. They both involve travel anywhere in their region on return tickets for a nominal sum [up to £25 for some 1st class in Scotland] of about £18. Phenomenal bargains are available on both, but does anyone know if any other companies are joining in? I…

Plans for 2012?
Have you made any plans for 2012? Mine include no longer putting off the various jobs I had planned to do when I retired 4 years ago as a prelude to getting the house ready to move. Getting DH to talk about making some plans would be great too! Realistically I don't think we shall manage to move in 2012 but would like to…

Solicitor destroys records after 10 years
Is it normal practise for solicitors to destroy client/solicitor records after 10 years. The records in the 1990's covered several house transactions and I remember at the time him saying let me make a note of that in case there are disputes in the future. Is this normal practise?

solicitors charge for will?
Has anyone any idea approximately how much a solicitor would charge to draw up a will? My father wants to leave a small amount to his great-grandchildren, and the rest to be divided equally between his children. The total amount of the estate, including his house, would probably be around £120k. Thanks.
