sell up and rent somewhere and spend my hard earned investement [ talking approx £80,000 ] doing things ive always wanted to travel

very tongue in cheek post but does have serious side to consider

If you're happy in your home, I'd stay in it rather than make a move you regret. You could consider taking some money out via equity release if you want travel funds. (although I don't know much about it so you should be careful.)
If you don't like where you live, sell the house and downsize or rent something and enjoy the proceeds." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

£80,000 may seem a lot and could fund some of the things on your personal bucket list. I would rather have the security of owning the roof over my head.

There are plenty of nice places to rent abroad - not including bricks and mortar. When DH was lucky enough to retire at 50 - we rented out our own place and then headed off to the sunshine, fully intending to rent a house or flat wherever we ended up, using our rental money to pay. To cut a long story short - we ended up in a caravan (don't knock it till you've tried it abroad......) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! We were short of absolutely nothing - every mod con known to man and having awnings, gazebo's, a fully equipped kitchen tent for cooking and had the best time ever for very little cost. We managed to buy a small secondhand touring caravan in Spain and long term pitch rental was about £2000 a year including water and electricity. There are some caravans available to rent without having to buy one. Try it for 6 months and see how you get on. Don't sell up just yet!0
