Having recently returned to live full-time in the UK, I'm beginning to be able to get started with all the things I came back for, and couldn't do in Spain.
1. We have today been accepted as Stewards in our church, which we joined two years ago, but have only been able to attend sporadically while we've been visiting. Before we went to Spain, we were in the same church for 25 years. I missed not being able to be involved in the church for eight years - it was not possible in the village church in Spain and there was also the language barrier.
2. We have applied to be Home/Pet Sitters and all eight (four each) of our references have been taken up and we know that at least six have already replied. So hopefully we will be called for an interview soon. I can't WAIT to have a job again - I realised that at nearly 62 I'm too young to be completely retired!
3. We have been around to help and support a few of our friends who have had various problems. They need help and I'm glad we are able to be there for them.
These are the things we came back for, that in Spain we couldn't do. Our village was great, the people terrific and the view from our house stunning, but HOME is in the West Midlands and always will be.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Well I wish you well and hope you can enjoy your time back in UK0

welcome home! your motivations, especially the ones to support your friends are commendable0

I shall remember this post every time DH is thinking longingly of retiring to the Canary Islands. ATM I can keep him in check by reminding him that he needs to learn some Spanish (more than 'dos cafes con leche por favor!) I love it for holidays, but home is in the UK.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Savvy Sue, I'm glad we had the experience of eight years in Spain, but it was never meant to be permanent and so now was the right time to come back. And for me there was NOTHING there that I wanted to do and you can't live forever on sunshine and a beautiful view. Eventually I began to miss the things I did more and more, and even my husband had drawn all the pictures and taken all the photographs.
We're both glad to be back.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

When we came back from Spain it was like putting your slippers on again after a day in high heels.
I don't think you realise until you come home just how stressful the bureaucracy is and finding things out is just so difficult sometimes when your Spanish is less than perfect.
We are glad we had the experience but have decided that home's best.0 -
Absolutely agree Krisskross. Our time in Spain was great but it was never home.
We are still grappling with Spanish bureacracy however. Our house sale has STILL not completed! C0K-up by notary means it's now going to be the end of March. Ho hum!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Welcome back to Blighty SDW - hope the house sale doesn't take much longer, it's been stressful enough already. What are you doing posting in the middle of the night.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
