I am financially comfortable. Inflation is biting me hard. What next?
Could this thread please be allowed to remain as the title theme affects a lot of us older savers who now live off our savings I started a thread on stopping savings and spending cash but it has been relegated to the back of beyond. It is very very important for many of us `non working older ones` because of the fact that…

Pretend discounts!
A satellite guy came to fit a new digibox for a neighbour. On his van were emblazoned the words 'discount for over 6os'. When I asked him about it he said he could fit one while he was here and he quoted the price he charged my (young) neighbour. When I asked about my discount he huffed and he puffed and said it was…

Over 50 but well under 60 - any discounts/concessions etc?
I'm 50 and while I'm pretty happy on the whole, I'm financially more constrained than I've ever been. No complaints, it's just the way it is - a result of having reached the point where I no longer receive any child-related benefits but am still running a small family home as a lone parent and will have to continue to do…

missing state pension
Well, this has never happened before. My state pension is paid directly into my savings account every Monday, except when there's a bank holiday when it's paid the previous Friday. Not there today! I wonder why this is - does it happen often and I've just been lucky up until now, or should I panic and call DWP? Luckily I'm…

Sunday walks
Hubby and me are both over 60. I am still working though not for much longer. We decided Sundays if not doing anything, are a bit boring so should take the opportunity of going for a walk. However, especially this time of year places to walk have to fit into a certain criteria for me. Walking locally gets a bit samey so I…

So Glad to be Home
:j Having recently returned to live full-time in the UK, I'm beginning to be able to get started with all the things I came back for, and couldn't do in Spain. 1. We have today been accepted as Stewards in our church, which we joined two years ago, but have only been able to attend sporadically while we've been visiting.…

Drawing up a will
Ok, so I've looked at previous threads on the topic and am still unsure as to what I should do. I suppose I have one of the simpler situations: 1. Wife plus self wanting to leave everything to each other in the event of one of us popping. Is that not taken as read by the law in any case? 2. Two children to share it all…

Social Housing
My wife and I are both OAP's, still working to pay off a mortgage, 7 years left to run. We would both like to give up work, but the only way would be to sell our property to release the capital. In such a case is it possible to apply for council housing and move in if possible before the sale is complete.

wills
Does anyone know if you own a buy to let property with more than one person and you have left your percentage to someone else and you die can you still keep that property (with a Mortgage on it) if the person who has been left a share has agreed to it. Or does it have to be sold to pay the Mortgage off and the profit…

Help please - free online scrabble game.
I've joined an over 60s scrabble group; it's very competitive but I haven't played for years. One or two of the group play online "free" scrabble in between meetings but despite several attempts at googling "free scrabble" (which is what they suggested) I can't find anything suitable to download. Is it me?

retirement plans
Dh will finish his paid work later this year. I have been retired for a while now and have lots of interests. We are making very little progress in talking about our future plans. I am getting frustrated as he is avoiding the issue, or actually getting quite stressed about it when we do talk. My friends and family are…

Spending money under EPA.
My mother has recently been moved to a care home following a stroke, currently under CHC, although this will be reassessed soon. I have EPA and so far have not taken any funds from her account beyond household bills and personal items. I would like to know if I can use her money beyond this. For example, I have run up a…

Ruby Wedding Gift Ideas
It's my parents' ruby wedding in a month or so, and I'm looking for ideas for a really special gift for them. My brother and sister and I will be clubbing together, probably we'll come up with around £300. My parents are already planning some kind of trip themselves, so we're really looking for an item to give them.…

loan insurance for over 60
I want a simple loan insurance. Just life, no frills and just for the life of the loan. I have looked but all offer employment cover and say that the loan payment date must be before I retire ( too late, am already a lady of leisure). The over 50 life ones do not work out any cheaper than the insurance offered by the loan…

unwanted presents?
Despite e-mails, text and Facebook messages inviting her, one of my nieces still hasn't visited us, so we have her Christmas present still here. Maybe I shall just keep it till she turns up, even if that is next Christmas. Then there's the usual lack of gratitude from those who can't be bothered to drop me a thank you -…
