I am hoping with fingers crossed that maybe someone can help me with this as i really can't keep on asking random people of the era:eek:
Years and Years ago ( yes i remember that far back :rotfl:)
If you had a curtain up on your front door there was a special bracket that was used so that when the door was opened its didn't drag on the door. Can anyone remember what this was called and if you can buy them anywhere.

Do you mean something like this?

They are called portier rods.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I wouldn't have known the name, but they do look like the kind of thing I think the OP is talking about!Signature removed for peace of mind0

But what a price!0

That's only an example, it just happened to be the first one that came up on a google search. Now OP knows what she is looking for she can do some googling/phoning round. She may even know someone who is handy - all it needs really is a bit of hinged doweling and an end-stop.I'm a retired employment solicitor. I fitted a portiere rod to my front door last autumn. I found that there are 2 general types, the first being capable of lifting the curtain slightly as you open the door,so it doesn't get caught under the door. The problem I found with these is that they're all pretty lightweight, and I wanted one that could carry a fairly heavy curtain on a wide front door. So I elected for this one: http://www.tracksandpoles.com/rod_portiere.shtml - the bottom one on the page. It doesn't lift the curtain, but that's not a problem for me as I generally slide back the curtain before I open the door.
It was pretty easy to fix, and took a standard readymade pleat headed curtain. It works fine, and I have had a much warmer hallway this winter.:DA bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove you don't need it.0 -

How odd! I was discussing these only a week ago, having not thought about them for years. We had a solid brass one when I was a child and someone I don't know very well was saying that he STILL had one - I thought at first it was a bit strange but having considered it more over the past few days, I've come to the conclusion that they are possibly a very 'green' solution to heat loss.0

Hi,
It's probably a bit late now, but House of Bath (www.houseofbath.co.uk )have a wall-hung one for £19.95. (They call it a drapery arm!) If you go through Topcashback, there's a 20% off code for first-time customers + the normal cashback (around 8%, from memory.)0
