Hi everyone

After a bit of help here. I bought my nan a riser recliner chair, and she has had it for a few years, so it's time for a replacement. She tells me that my great aunt has one that operates with a manual "wheel" and not with electricity - this is appealing to her as she dreads the thought of being all reclined and there being a power cut? However, as always, with my nanna, there is a bit of sparsity in the detail about this marvellous chair.

Does anyone out there know if such a thing exists, who makes them, and if they are any good at all?

My nanna and I thank you!!

Not heard of one with a wheel but there are manual riser and lift assist armchairs about. Some are more expensive than the mains powered ones. Example here

All modern powered riser recliners should have a battery back up system incase of power cuts. It is normally 2 x 9v batteries fitted in or near the mains transformer pack.

Pity you don't live in South Wales as I have a powered riser recliner that I need to sell quickly.

If you watch ITV at all, there seem to be programmes which are sponsored by a chair company whose chairs seem to have some kind of lever at the side to lift them. Afraid I can't remember the name of the company (so much for their advertising) but others on here might remember.

Laz-e-boy do them and various other firms too. DH has one with a manual lever.

:rotfl: Know what you mean, my mum had a pacemaker fitted last week and decided on her first night home that she would rather sleep in her chair downstairs than in her bed, as she was worried she'd find it difficult to get in and out of bed.

Hers is a completely manual one: you push back and your feet go up, and to get up you push down and your head comes up.

Well, it seemed to take a bit of effort to get her back, and I was a bit worried that she'd not be able to get up again, but that was what she wanted to do, so I left her to it!

Thanks for all the replies. I've seen plenty of manual recliners, but need to have the riser function as well as my nan both sleeps in it, and finds it hard to get up. It's a bit of a nightmare actually - when she lies flat, her legs feel like they are burning, so she can only manage to stay in bed for a couple of hours.

    barnabee- thanks for the kinky

Guess I will have to try and watch a bit of itv to see who advertises on there! Will look at laz-e-boy too

I have just remembered, my mum got just the sort of thing you are after from Social Services for free. (We handed it back when she died.)

Thanks for that - will try and see if that is a possibility!

We've always had HSL chairs. The one I got for DH has a lever at the side to raise and lower the legs. It doesn't raise the seat, but there are ones that do. http://www.hslchairs.com/
