Old Style Daily Saturday 27 January 2024
Morning. The butteries I bought yesterday afternoon were yummy, not exactly the same taste as the originals but still delicious, just no lard. I also got a cinnamon bun, the cafe makes large ones so it does two portions. Buns / cakes made with yeast are a real favourite of mine. I'm off shortly down to Glasgow for an…

Haggis
With "Burns Night" looming no doubt some MSErs will be taking advanatage of haggis offers and YS bargains, have you considered that the "beastie" is far more versatile than using just for "Haggis, Neeps and Tatties" (though nowt wrong with those :) ). Other ways to serve:- Haggis with whisky and cream - Cook haggis as per…

Apple Peeler/Corer
Has anyone used one of these? Does anyone have any experience of whether the cheaper ones are adequate or whether I should be looking at a more expensive one? ETA, fancying one with a proper screw on clamp rather than a suction one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283013444173

Power went off at 9.30pm last night and not back on yet. Engineers not allowed out as it’s too dangerous. Am on my phone. Woodburner on to boil water and cook. Luckily it’s fairly mild. I hope that others are OK.

Weekly FLYLADY Thread 15 January 2024
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Fitted electric oven recommendations?
We've just had our Neff oven virtually give up the ghost between one day and the next after only six years moderate use - so, safe to say we won't be getting that brand again, or any other premium brand, for that matter... Could anyone recommend a moderate price oven they bought and have been using for a reasonable time,…

If you could invent something to solve a household issue what would it be?
Maybe someone already has a fix for it! Mine would be for someone to invent something to REALLY clean an iron plate after something got burnt, I have tried so many things and nothing helps.

Clean Eating in 2024, trying old recipes and hunting down special offers.
Two books bought this week have inspired me. The first was the book by Iceland boss Richard Walker OBE, son of Iceland founder Sir Malcolm. Richard Walker is really into environmental stuff and Iceland is at the forefront of green thinking at UK supermarkets. The second book is all about gut health and was written by Dr…

rust in washing machine drawer
I seem to be getting flakes of rust in the washing machine dispenser drawer. I did give it a wipe out. The machine is 7 and half years old. So guessing its a new machine?
