I keep quoting the phrase 'Ne'er cast a clout till May be out', because I love it (and because I'm quite annoying 😁)
But it rings true not just for clothing (though obvs take a layer with you) but for OATs, our Outstanding Annoying Tasks
So May's thread is all about not shrugging off the tasks we know we should get done, whether they've been on the to-do list for blimmin yonks or have just occurred and could easily lurk at us for ages
Loads of people have been absolutely smashing it in the April thread, we've been covering big aims, progressing things, and picking one thing that has been or would be getting right on our nerves in the background of our lives
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6598522/spring-in-our-step/p1
Anyone who hasn't previously joined in is very welcome to do so, it's not a competition, it's a way of supporting and motivating each other to have a bit of a better day, month, life, because we've done that one thing that we could easily not do
Anyone else up for tackling those OATs this month, till May be out?

Thanks for the new thread! I'm certainly up for it and have a LONG list to go through and prioritise. I really need to focus on the garden at the moment, but I also have some things to do in the house:
- Measure for kitchen/garden room blinds and order them. I can't put them up if I don't have them.
- Start leaving the dog crate open at night to see whether I can take the pen down and reclaim some space
- Put underlay under kitchen/garden room rugs to stop them slipping
- Fit fly screens to kitchen windows (I've had the stuff for well over a year!

Thank you for sorting a new thread PIP. I am in and as usual will be focussing on sorting and clearance to make my brave new world a better place for me.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

This month I will be mostly having my first holiday in 7 or 8 years (just a weekend, but I can't wait). Not Annoying but very Overdue!
Then I'll be doing house stuff (mostly decluttering), garden stuff (finish painting the massive wall I started a month ago) and redoing my outgoings spreadsheet and setting debt priorities. I also need to take my car to get fixed asap.Debts 04/01/25 01/05/25

Thanks so much @PennysIntoPounds for starting a May thread. Today I’ve cast my clouts to walk the 15 minutes to the dreaded hairdressers - a summer frock with no cardie!
I shall contemplate my many May OATS sipping a glass of something chilled and sparkling sitting under the parasol in my pretty patio.

I have measured for and ordered my blinds. And located all the window fly screen kits and got them out.
Better get on and do some work now... interspersed with seed sowing as I have no beans, no mangetout, no squash, no beetroot, no chard, no leeks, and no kohl rabi started. There are also nicotiana, cosmos, and a whole lot of other flower seeds to sow. And then places to prepare for them to be planted in!5 -
At this moment scaffolding is being erected around my house. The long awaited new roof will be done next week. So this weekend DH and I will be emptying the loft.
We're determined to put very little back up there.
3 guitars to be sold one amp and one mandolin.
Various travel bags and hiking back packs will be returned to DD. She has her own loft now to fillalong with the last of her old uni books.
DH says he's going to be harsh on how many books he keeps.
Xmas decorations and suitcases will be put back up. We culled the decorations last Xmas so we're keeping what's left.
Huge amount of art magazines will be donated or recycled depending on their condition.
Various items for Justin will go.
Not getting any younger so this will be a big help in the future.
Wish me luck!

So much to read, so little time.4 -
@FlorayG - Yes, the hawthorn is what I know as May blossom. Not to be confused with blackthorn either, which looks very similar but flowers earlier in the year before the leaves come out.
I'm enjoying reading everyone's progress and you all put me to shame. I've started my own list of OATs in the hope it will spur me on in my efforts.
The current big OAT is decorating the living room that has been neglected for so long. I started last week - or was it the week before? - and am still at the prep stage of washing down walls. I have to pace myself as my knee doesn't always co-operate and, at my age, I don't need to be falling off stepladders! DS will be painting the ceiling for me - and the woodwork (I hope) - and I'll do the walls.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.6
