My washing machine started beeping!
Recently my Indesit washing machine has started emitting beeps throughout its normal programme. It's usually a matter of three short beeps but can be more. Does anyone know what this means? The manual went awol years ago and I haven't a clue.

Freezing iced Christmas cake
I've been given a Tesco finest iced Christmas cake with a best before date of 31 January 2025 and will not eat it all by then. I freeze rich fruit cake but never an iced cake. Will it successfully freeze so I can continue to enjoy it for a longer period.

Will sandwiches be alright for next day?
I'm going away for a couple of days and I wondered if I make sandwiches on the Tuesday morning and put them in tin foil in a tupperware box, will they be ok to eat on the Wednesday lunchtime? Unfortunately I won't be able to keep them refrigerated.

Weekly Flylady Thread 23rd December 2024
🎄Christmas Week Starts here🎄 Thank you, Valli, for last week's thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on
the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is
often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to
provide the support…

What's in your lunchbox ?
There is a discussion on this board started by @markglasses who has been taking jam sandwiches to work for many years. To help him and others to have a virtual peek into others delights, this thread has been started. Mark would also like to see approximate costs as well, if at all possible. So anyone who wishes to lift the…

Stir Up Sunday
This Sunday (26 November) is 'Stir Up Sunday' - traditionally a day to make your Christmas pud and/or cake. Will you be stirring your Christmas pudding this weekend (or perhaps you've done it already)? In this thread from 2012 several Forumites shared their family recipes, and there's also a 2004 thread with another…

Save water the easy way.
Remove the lid on the toilet system and set the flot up a bit so that you use less water when you flush the loo. This and having a water meter saves me loads.

Is it possible to eat "healthy" on a £150 per month budget?
I have a separate budget of £5 per day for meals at work. So, this £150 is to cover two meals per day. Is it possible to eat healthy on this budget? Is it possible to get the 5 a day as advised? I have struggled living alone and cooking food for myself and I'm starting to feel rather useless at life. Also, I don't know…

Inspire me for Christmas Eve?
For those that don’t have a big family meal on Christmas Eve, what are you planning to eat. I’m thinking something lighter before the blow out of the next couple of days, but I’m bored with everything I normally cook and salad doesn’t appeal in winter. Hit me with your suggestions.

O/S Daily Monday 23rd December 2024
Good morning, it's dry here and I think the wind has dropped, thank heavens. I went to T*sco yesterday, think I was lucky to get out in one piece! It was packed with wild eyed shoppers with piled high trolleys forging their way round - at one point I was in a total trolley jam, pressed up against a fixture, had to just…

Christmas veg ideas for the freezer
January is a long cold month already but with all the cheap veg in the supermarkets I’m trying to make the most of it by making food for the freezer. So far it’s been mostly soups a bit I thought we could share some ideas to make the most of the cheap food and stock up the freezer. * Soup ( millions of variants!!) *…

Good morning sll. It's been a dreadful night, the winds roared and, by the sound of it, hailstones bounced off the windows endlessly. May have been icy rain. I'll be back.
