Marriage allowance on tax
Hello, I have been looking into the marriage allowance and completely understand how it works. But the thing I can not find is that if the partner that is earning less than the pre tax allowance also earns dividends does this affect the benefit for the other basic rate partner? Any advice would be appreciated

Child residency, benefits and school fees
Not sure where exactly to post this, I can't find anything similar to my situation already on the MSE forums! My wife and I have been legally separated for years. We have two daughters who board at a specialist school during the week, which has subsidised fees depending on parents' earnings. I usually have our daughters at…

Advice for Twins
We may be expecting twins. Still very early days but through IVF (well, ICSI) and early scans, it's showing two babies. We already have one toddler so have a lot of stuff (like clothes) and it's in our mind to have a tandem pram rather than side by side for ease of access. However is there a car out there, that isn't ugly…

Legal Advice
Hi, is there anyone that might be able to answer a question about a legal case or know of anywhere that might please? It's a hard one. 30 years ago I was a victim. The person who inflicted the crime also did the same to another person. The other person pressed charges. At the time, it was not something I could face doing…

2 children, they have already decided on the split of which days/nights they
will have the children between them. As we understand it,
they will be encouraged to try mediation first. We believe her…

Would you consider this toxic behaviour?
For background: I’ve grown up in a somewhat toxic family, lots of passive aggression and control - I’m now living in a different country and my relationship with them is growing more and more distant. Anyway - my mother who is a very cold and anti-social person messages me random things from time to time - I gather this is…

Land - Efficient Tax Planning - Gift/Trust etc
Happy New Year, fellow forumites! Appreciate that this may need some more detailed legal advice, but interested in views on this. Wife has elderly (80yo) aunty who owns a small (approx. 1 acre) piece of land, and said aunty wishes to leave said land to wife - and her will is made out to this end. Discussing with said aunty…

When you thought divorce was a possibility and when it actually became a reality?
Was talking to a friend who has recently separated from his wife. They had been together 11 years and married 6. They have 2 young kids 5 and 4. I didn't really know the relationship well but all seemed good from the outside looking in. He told me that basically a year or two after getting married (so about 4 years before…

Could my mum's reckless action (failure to take any action) actually cause physical harm to anyone??
My mother is quite simply 'not right in the head'. Following the death of my father (3-years ago) she has chosen to simply not bother with/have any regard for her legal duties as a citizen. She has been provided countless advice by myself & my sisters :: But due to her attitude of simply not having any urgency about…

Do I have to instruct a divorce lawyer?
Hi, I have previously posted about wanting to leave my husband and I have come to terms with the fact that there is no way round it, I am definitely leaving him. I feel a huge ball of guilt when I think about it, but I feel a huge weight of sadness if I consider staying. It is going to be hard, but the only way I can see…

Pension offsetting divorce
Hello! I'm trying to negotiate a settlement for my divorce after almost 4 very painful years. I had a specialist pension report which gave an offset figure of 17k in my favour. The op is suggesting this is deducted from the equity of our house sale before we split the remaining proceeds. Surely that would be paying half…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I replace my flatmate's fancy bowl - even though she told me not to?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... While putting away the dishes, I accidentally dropped a bowl belonging to my flatmate. She told me not to bother replacing it as we have loads of others, but the bowl I smashed was from an expensive ceramics brand, while our other bowls are normal cheap crockery. Yet I still…
