Uses for old duvet cover
Does anyone have any suggestions for things I can do with an old cotton duvet cover. It is king size and the matching pillow cases have gone threadbare. I don't have a sewing machine, but willing to hand sew (easy stuff). I can't store any more rags. The only thing I can think of is sheets for the travel cot, for when my…

Mouldy car!
A while ago I had to have a window replaced in my car as some little oik broke in to it. When they replaced the window, they didn't seal it very well and it leaked. Of course, I didn't find out until I was in the car wash and the window people (big firm, who shall remain nameless) didn't come out until after it had rained…

Yesterday I ordered some cooking stuff from Tesco direct, got a big stockpot as the biggest pan I currently have is a 16cm one so pretty pathetic, a couple of new saucepans, various pyrex dishes and a roasting tin. It should get here either tomorrow or Tuesday(it's next day delivery but sometimes Aberdeen counts as an…

Frozen soup problem
I recently cooked a couple of loads of soup (blended veg ones) and I've found that when I defrost it it separates out into the veg and water, even when reheated it doesn't go back to how it should be. I've cooked and frozen loads before and never had this happen until now - does anyone have any ideas why? It looks really…

Ideas for apple peelings
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what I can do with apple peelings? I have just made several lovely apple and cinnamon tarts, and I have peeled 12 apples, leaving a huge pile of peelings, and wondered if there was anything I could cook with them instead of just binning them (no I don't compost, I don't have a…

Preparing meals in advance?
Hi All, I need to get more organised - most days whizz by occupied with baby duties, and I don't seem to get a meal sorted until late evening, I'd be very interested to hear ideas/recipes I can prepare (or part prepare) in advance rather than the frantic last minute throw together option! Prawn shells
I did a seafood platter at Christmas with a few langoustine and shell-on prawns. I've still got the shells (originally ~2kg prawns) in the freezer as I thought I could do a prawn bisque with them.... but ideally I need some prawns too and I don't really want to buy more prawns for a supper I'd planned to be 'free'... Is…

Tower pressure cooker advice needed
I've very generously been given an unused, ten year old Tower pressure cooker by a friend. The only thing it came without was the instructions. I've always used Prestige in the past, and now I have a question. I've just cooked some potatoes, and when the cooker reached pressure a coloured band showed up on the weight, then…

Can I use ghee on a turkey crown??
I'm doing a turkey crown tonight. I've just realised I have no butter and/or bacon to put on the breast meat to stop it drying out. I'll be covering it in foil but I think it probably needs something. I've got vegetable oil and a tin of ghee. Would ghee work?? Or would it change the taste of the meat too much? I'm on the…
