Breadmaking question!

I've just gone to use my breadmaker and found I've bought strong wholemeal bread flour - my breadmaker has no recipes for it except pitta bread!
Can I substitute strong white for wholemeal does anyone know please?
Thanks

yes you can but it won't rise as much as white will - even more so if you cook it on a rapid bake programme - you also might need a little extra water.
The recipe that came with my panasonic for a wholemeal loaf is
    • 1lb 4oz strong wholemeal flour
    • 1 1/2 tspn yeast
    • 2 tspn sugar
    • 1 1/2 tspn salt
    • 1 oz marg
    • 380ml water.
    Hope that helps :)
  • Many thanks for the quick reply - I'm off to do it now!! :-)
  • Thanks so much Shara, I made it in the breadmaker then cooked it in the oven - you were right on it not rising much but I was pleased with it - tasted great :-)

    Hi treacle,

Next time if you add a crushed vitamin C tablet it should rise a bit more.

Also - if you save the water that you use to boil potatoes in - that helps too. Makes a lovely bread :)
