Can I use ghee on a turkey crown??

I'm doing a turkey crown tonight.

I've just realised I have no butter and/or bacon to put on the breast meat to stop it drying out. I'll be covering it in foil but I think it probably needs something.

I've got vegetable oil and a tin of ghee.

Would ghee work?? Or would it change the taste of the meat too much?

I'm on the £4,000 for the year challenge over on DFW and I'm determined not to go to the supermarket until I really, really have to but at the same time I don't want to ruin what is a lovely piece of meat for the sake of going out and spending £1 or so.

    hi,
ghee's just clarified butter, so you can go ahead & use it & it shouldn't affect the taste at all

I did a turkey crown at Xmas & tried out the 'roasting breast down' method & it worked really well, the meat was lovely & juicy & tasty, no bacon or anything else needed to keep the breast moist

    HTH :)

I've used it on chicken, didn't effect the taste at all.

  • I agree with what Swan and lil_me suggest :T I'd also add to baste the bird a couple of times during the second half of the cooking time. I have a long handled spoon for this job.
