Preparing meals in advance?

Hi All,

I need to get more organised - most days whizz by occupied with baby duties, and I don't seem to get a meal sorted until late evening, I'd be very interested to hear ideas/recipes I can prepare (or part prepare) in advance rather than the frantic last minute throw together option! I do have a slow cooker but still struggle at times watching the clock go by whilst teething baby demands and slow cooker stands empty!! Guess I need to do slow cooker preparation the night before so it can be all thrown in!
Any ideas please?

Thanks

T

Absolutely right! My midwife advised that as soon as I could in the day, get dressed and get dinner ready, otherwise lunchtime would arrive and I'd still be in jamas and dinner time would arrive and there would be nothing to eat.

Still try and live by this now, especially in the winter (I have SAD and sometimes have rather a tough time with it)

Hi Treacle - when my kids were little I also cooked when I could and then heated it up...so we had lots of home made soups and stew type things, spag bol, chilli etc. i also enjoyed baking and i know it's hard to find time with little ones. One thing I'd do was make quiches and then we'd have one for tea later with a salad and bread if i couldn't get potatoes boiled (!!) and the others went in the freezer. Also, maybe make a big roast on a Sun (or a sat) and then use it up for a few days - salads, stews, sandwiches whatever.
I think the thing is to cook a LOT of something when you get the chance.
I had a cousin whose husband had sandwiches for his tea for 6 months after their baby was born.action-smiley-033.gif the alternative was for him to cook i suppose.
Good luck with it all. These days pass so quickly - my babies are 23 and 21 now

purpleivy - I've heard that SAD can be tough to deal with (my sister suffers with it)- this dark stormy weather is especially horrible. It's good to know that you are having warm healthy food.
