Uses for old duvet cover

Does anyone have any suggestions for things I can do with an old cotton duvet cover. It is king size and the matching pillow cases have gone threadbare.
I don't have a sewing machine, but willing to hand sew (easy stuff). I can't store any more rags.
The only thing I can think of is sheets for the travel cot, for when my grandbaby visits, but at the moment I just use a folded up single sheet which is fine.
I don't really want to throw it out, but it's gone grey and almost threadbare, and suggestions gratefully received.

Morning  you could always buy new cheapie pillow cases and then dye them with the duvet cover - hey presto new duvet.
Or cut them and hem some of the fabric into work rags. Or make them into a padded dog bed/cover if you have a dog or cat, come to that...

My old duvet cover is in the loft covering the Christmas tree - keeps the dust off it till next December. Have you got kids you could use the old cover to make bags to hold lego. Cut a huge circle -hem the edge put in a string and when they are finished playing pull the string and it becomes a big bag and u don't need to pick up any bits from the floor.Could be used for toy bricks or any toy with little bits that are a faff to pick up.:j

You could wrap it around your hot water cylinder if you have one. Will make good insulation.

I'm using some for patchwork and rag rugs. I'm about to cut down one good double to make some body pillow covers; I made the body pillow from a spare quilt which I cut up and washed; the body pillow covers will be a particular pattern so they'll be easy to find in the ac :)

In the past I've used duvet covers (from charity shop) to make cheap curtains and linings. Plain coloured sheets make excellent curtain linings too.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I've got one being used as a curtain at the minute...........it was king size -think it came from Mums............bit worn so I cut those pieces off and it was big enough for a curtain for the spare room.
If the pattern is pretty enough you could sew pieces of it as applique onto plain curtains. I did similar with some cheap lining curtains from charity shop, got some patterned voile and hand stitched them on to the lining curtains........look really smart (well I think so ).:j

Do you have a dog? You could turn it into a bed for them or use it for a blanket when they come in from the garden to prevent muddy paws on the floor
