Trail commission - money for nothing?
I'm reviewing some of our savings and investments (.... and yes, I know, I should do so more regularly and systematically, but still....) and I have been looking into one investment in particular. This has thrown up an interesting question about value-for-money. The basic facts are that about 25 years ago we invested a…

SIP (Share Incentive Plan) Dividend Tax
Hello, I have been
paying into a SIP for 15 ish years. I now have enough shares that even a
small dividend paid on each share means I have reached the £500 dividend tax
threshold it is not a huge amount so is just a pain in the proverbial and not
enough to warrant professional services. I have shares in the SIP that are…

Opening a GIA to fund ISA/SIPP fees
Never ceases to amaze me how dumb I am but... Having had a couple SIPPs for awhile now (AJ Bell & Vanguard) it's only just occurred to me that it might be possible to open GIAs & fund them with enough to cover account fees (instead of them coming from within the SIPPs themselves). I believe this is possible at both places.…

Starting Rate calculation
Sorry to ask this question I have spent about an hour and a half looking for the answer. I am having a mental block on this. When calculating your £5000 starting rate allowance for your income are you using the gross amount before tax for income or after tax has been taken off. I have always calculated using income figures…

Martin stirring the pot on children's savings (again)
I see today's poll is once again pushing the notion that it can be ok to raid money out of savings accounts in your kids name. Save for them or don't, but please can we stop rationalising theft, whatever the perceived justification? Martin might as well say it's ok to nick food from the supermarket if you're hard up and…

Heads they win, tails I lose
Over recent years, most times when I have been out of the market when switching funds (one day) or moving funds from a Trading account to a wrapped account (T+3) the market has moved against me. This year I decided a wouldn't be caught so, since I have cash in an instant access savings account, yesterday I 'pre-funded' the…

Do you see any anomalies?

Is it heavy in some sectors and light in others as a percentage wise ( with view of the top 10 holdings in each sectors )? Does it make any sense for a not risk averse person, who won't touch…
