Green Homes Scheme - invitation letter
Just received a letter, addressed to the 'homeowner' from a private company called "Green Homes Scheme", the name of which sounds exactly like the Government's scheme. The letter offers up to a £4000 grant to upgrade our current PVs from 250w to 450 w, which will apparently "not affect your FIT payments", with the upgrade…

UKPN offering free single phase upgrade but digging same holes for 3 phase is chargeable?
We're in a 1905 mid-terrace with the original supply cable from the street. With an ASHP, EV charger, 1 or two inverters and batteries, induction hob and 2x ovens going in, we needed to upgrade from 60A to 100A. Our supply cable was insufficient for 100A so we're booked in for a single phase supply upgrade which would be…

Being Charged £5500 from Electricity Company! Help!
Hi Guys I moved to a new house in August 2024. The energy supplier at this property was Positive Energy (PE). As soon as I moved in, I contacted British Gas, who supplied my previous home, and requested a switch to them. However, they told me that PE had rejected the transfer. When I contacted PE, they said the previous…

What is an EV
Sounds simple .. a vehicle that is powered by electricity, but what does it include when one is looking at supply tariffs. Most EV tariffs require you to have an EV, but they don't give great definitions for what an acceptable EV is. Apart from the usual car / van, there are electric motorbikes, golf buggies, mobility…

Just changed supplier and fixed rates after International developments
I know it might take some time to feed through, but I thought it might be a good time to fix energy rates now the cost of Energy has increased. I think the advice was to fix before this. I've changed to Ovo's 1 year fix which includes gas boiler service/repair.

Are Solar Panels Really Worth It?
My husband (40) and myself (37) (We have 3 young children) are looking into Solar Panels... We have had a quote from Octopus for £12,500.... Based on the figures (which i will post shortly) it looks like we start saving £625 a year (£52 a month) and after around 12 years start to earn from the electricity. Spending out…

British Gas Back billing
Hi all I cant see a similiar scenario in the forums. Jan 2nd 2024 - BG billed me - This is the last bill i've received, until June 11th 2025 (17month odd). Jun 11th 2025, they sent me a bill covering 17ish months for Circa £6000 - I pay by monthly DD, so my account was in credit covering this amount. I have challenged them…

Energy Comparison Figures. Do they add up?
I have been looking at new energy deals and all the big firms claim to offer better deals than I am on, but when I crunch the numbers their figures just don't add up. On uswitch I can match their numbers alternative suppliers but they show my supplier as being £140 per year more expensive that it is on my figures even…

Some advice please about being forced to move meters
We moved to a semi around 7 years ago. The house was extended by the previous owner to one side. When extended the electric meter was left under stairs in such a way that the cutouts or fuses were left on the inside of the extension while the meter was left on the other side of wall in the house under stairs. I recently…

Economy 7 and ending of RTS (Radio Teleswitch Service)
I currently have a digital Economy 7 meter. My energy supplier (Shell) make the following statement on their website. "In March 2023 RTS meters will lose their functionality. This is because the radio teleswitch that controls the meters will be switched off. This may affect some homes where the electrical circuits may not…

Eco 4 identity theft fears
The way the Eco 4 scheme is run seems to make those using it vulnerable to identity theft. The installers have to be registered but these are not the firms that seem to be out there touting for business. Its surveying firms that are putting up ads for Eco4- and they are asking for documentation from customers in line with…

It's grim, raining and I'm cold but it's June. Should I light the fire?
Heavy rain has stopped gardening - it really is bucketing down. So I've come inside. My cat is logging on now so she can vote for option 1 - what do you think?

RTS Switch off / Smart Meters: Necessary or opportunity?
Hi Money-Savers, My dad’s being pressured to switch his old electricity meter to a smart meter. I’ve heard all sorts of mixed opinions about smart meters, from people saying “don’t touch them” to others saying they’re fine... but with the 'Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS)' being phased out, it feels like we don’t really have…

Temporary High Power Usage
I noticed this morning that for the third time in 12 months, a mysterious 0.33KWH being drawn with everything bar the fridge freezer and router turned off. I have the bright app and it shows normal usage is usually only 0.03KWH overnight or when I'm at work. Annual usage is low at 900KWH helped by 3 solar panels. Normally…

3-phase electricity in a private road
I submitted an application and payment to our DNO, Scottish
and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) in early April 2025, and an
installation date was agreed. However,
I was later informed that due to unresolved wayleave issues WSP, acting on behalf of SSEN, has advised that a
wayleave is required because the cable route…

Smart meter won’t connect to the network - EDF refusing to resolve the issue!!!
Hi there. Our first generation smart meter won’t connect to the DCC network, an issue that I have reported to our supplier, EDF. They have said the issue is out of their control, they will not send an engineer out to look at the meter, and we therefore just have to accept the problem. I have asked them why they can’t…
