Help with Defence for Parking Fine - Bay Sentry Solutions / dcb legal please
Hi Last November I made an emergency stop because of a medical condition on what I thought was disused land. In my haste to park and run across the road to a cafe facilities I did not see that I had parked in a No Stopping Zone. I had literally driven into the entrance and spun round facing back out towards the main road.…

Weekly Flylady Thread 13th April 2026
Thank you, Valli, for last week's thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the…

Scottish Power RTS replaced with Smart Metre
I have had my RTS metre replaced with a smart metre by Scottish Power, they didn't tell me that I would need to install a timer for my heating and hot water as the water is heating 24/7 and my storage heater is on for the full night rate - 11pm to 7-30am in winter or 12pm to 8.30am in summer, because I didn't find out…

Not parked within markings - pregnant with children.
My heavily pregnant wife received the attached from UKPC with reasoning ‘not parked correctly within the markings’. This seems very unfair considering this car park does not have any parent & child spaces, and the adjacent car is very far over (almost touching the boundary line) limiting access to safely remove our 2 young…

We will get this debt down & the savings up
Several years ago I joined MSE with a different user name, but then it all went a bit wrong with losing job and other things, so I sort of fell by the wayside. Now I have created a new profile and am starting again with more determination. I have read so many people's diaries and can see that it helps you focus and it is…

Tax on a prepaid card for charity
I work as a volunteer for a small registered charity. If our charity was to put money onto my personal prepaid card (Revolut) for purchasing goods for charity purposes, would HMRC regard that as taxable income? I would have receipts to prove all purchases. In a typical year this could be as much as £20 - 30K in purchases.

Parking fine, now with DCB Legal
a bit of a long one, but here goes. Moved area and parked in a well known supermarket carpark. Owned by eurocar parks Although I’d never heard of it before, this one required a pay and display, which I didn’t do. I bought my items, and left. Due to moving house, and updating different bits and pieces periodically, the…

Lebara Data Munching
Having had mobile phones since the 90s I've always been aware of usage. Have just moved to Lebara and my usage for 3 hours, doing online SuDoku, was 200Meg of data. I was previously on Tesco and that would be about 3 weeks data. The phone is flooded with Vodaphone Ads too, whilst it's cheap it may be a false economy as I…

Fundsmith again.
I've held Fundsmith for many years and it did very well for me. I sold out of the ISA a some years ago for better options because no sell liabilities, and have slowly brought down the GIA amount in CGT exemption steps. In the days of 12.3k exemptions this was pretty easy, but now with 3k it is more difficult. I've never…

Lycamobile roaming
I had a Lycamoblie plan which included roaming in EU and India but could not get it to work in India Wasted several hours trying the suggestions of their help desk (turning off, replacing SIM etc) then tried signing up for a roaming bundle - which worked - so nothing wrong with my phone settings Has anyone else failed to…

Proceeds from house sale
Hi all, as a 60 something couple who are just weeks away from selling our current home, and are in the fortunate position of being able to live temporarily with family whilst we look for our perfect downsized property, we will have around £200k to invest in the short term. We have read about splitting anything above £120k…

Maximising BR headroom while you can, vs mortality risk pre-75.
playing with optimisation strategies at the moment. Planning to retire at 58. If things go well, we should hopefully have some excess we can use to gift to kids while we’re still here and while they’re not too old. Some can be likely left to inheritance but with pensions going into the estate we want to avoid any massive…

£10-a-Day Challenge: 2026
Hello everyone! I used to be part of this challenge years ago, and after a long hiatus I’ve found my way back. The aim is simple: find or earn an extra £10-a-day to put towards debt, savings, or whatever financial goal you’re working on. It’s a fun, motivating way to build momentum, and every little win counts. Would love…

UKPC Parking Charge for Motorcycle
Hi all, first time posting on here. Apologies for the long post, I thought I would explain what happened, what my thought process was and what actions I've taken so far, and also upload photos of the parking area as well as all the letters that I have received to date from UKPC, so you have all the info. Any assistance…

Car insurance for second vehicle (temporary)
We are changing our car and will end up with two vehicles until our existing one is sold. Is it better to add the new car to the existing policy and then later remove the current car, or should we simply take out temporary cover on the new car until the old one sells and then change the policy details to the new car and…

Unsuccessful POPLA Appeal
POPLA refused my appeal against parking ticket. Their decision was not well justified in my opinion, with comment that seemed opposite to what I have seen in other decisions, for example: "In this case the parking operator has confirmed they have the authority from the owner of the land to act on their behalf, the…

Shared ownership & staircasing assistance!
Good morning all, new here and have read a fair few posts in regard to staircasing stamp duty! I think I may have got my maths correct but not 100% and its driving me round the bend so a little confirmation would be massively helpful! I bought my property at a 50% share for £112475 in 2021 during the covid Stamp duty…

Cooling off period and other ISA accounts
I opened a cash ISA in this tax year. After reading this forum I decided to close it during the 14 day cancellation period. The money was sent to my linked account (regular bank account). That was the option Investec offered. I then opened an ISA with a different bank. I wanted to check if that is all ok. I.e I can still…
