Dodgy estate agents
Hello! I put an offer in on a house last week but was told it probably wouldn't be accepted because they'd had a slightly lower offer from someone who had already completed on their house. We aren't even on the market yet, there's some frantic redecorating to be done first. This seemed odd but I don't know the other…

Student loan, increase pension payments?
My daughter is 24 and in her first year as a qualified teacher. I don't know much about student loans, but they are in the news much more. She is not thinking about her pension at her young age, but I believe she earns around £35k. Would someone earning £35k be paying off a student loan and would it make sense to increase…

Asda / Vars Technology - Equality Act 2010 breach
Hi Folks I have searched the forum for advice and read numerous threads
including the newbie thread, whilst these are extremely helpful, it can become
a little overwhelming and confusing which advice applies to my specific
situation so I decided to create a thread, not only to help me but also help
others in similar…

New HL fee structure from 01/03/26
Just added a new thread onto the Savings & Investments board ( https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/savings-investments ) about changes to the HL fee structure. And so just in case anyone has a HL SIPP and doesn't visit that board then I thought I should post here too to as there are quite a few changes and I've…

Transfer Out Plum ISA
Has anybody successfully transferred out a Cash ISA from Plum? I initially opened an ISA with Cynergy Bank but as part of the account opening, Plum (Plum Fintech Ltd (Saveable Limited - FCA: 739214)), wasn't listed. I contacted Cynergy once the account was open, only to be told they only accept transfers from institutions…

We will get this debt down & the savings up
Several years ago I joined MSE with a different user name, but then it all went a bit wrong with losing job and other things, so I sort of fell by the wayside. Now I have created a new profile and am starting again with more determination. I have read so many people's diaries and can see that it helps you focus and it is…

Defended claim - UKPC & DCB Legal - POPLA code allegedly sent but never received
Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on next steps in a private parking matter. I appreciate any views from those experienced with POPLA and the appeals process. I did intend to contest the parking charge on its merits, but I’m concerned that I was prevented from doing so properly because I was denied access to POPLA. Brief…

Non refundable hotel reservation that has horrendous reviews
Hi, I stupidly booked a non refundable hotel in Brighton for July yesterday and have since read a lot of really awful reviews. The pictures on the booking site are very nice but having gone down a Google rabbit hole it looks like those pictures are estate agent pictures from years ago and there are many pictures of filthy…

Self Levelling
Hi, We’ve just had our floors levelled in the kitchen and dining room. A couple of questions please - a) is it normal for a professional to make lots of mess up walls when doing this? And b) would you expect them to cover a wooden door for example? I ask because there was loads of splashes up our walls, which isn’t too…

Hi guys, long time lurker here, looking for suggestions on how best to play my money in retirement. There's not much to play with to be honest but I am going to retire this year that's a definite. Currys
Hello all, Our washing machine has become faulty after 1 week and we bought it from Currys online. When my partner visited the local store to see about a refund, the staff said there was nothing they could do until we called the manufacturer so an engineer can verify it is indeed faulty, get a code if it is and give that…

Fixed Term Annuities
Am considering going down the Fixed Term Annuities route when i retire - likely 3, with terms of 5, 15 and 25 years. Does any one have any knowledge of how far in advance i can secure the annuities? Using Money Helper website calculator the rates/figures look quite favourable at the moment, so locking in a decent rate…

Don't hit me with those negative waves Moriarity
I have lurked for a long time on this forum, then joined and lurked (and lurked some more). Maybe should have gone with an Adams family reference for the title but ho hum I'm here now. I think I'm ready to start a diary even though I've had one running through my head for months as I had my light bulb moment back in…

£500 for two basic internal doors?
We've been quoted ~£500 to supply and fit two basic internal doors for walk in storage cupboards in the hall of our flat. I get that two doors + hinges, catches and handles would be around £150 (eg from Wickes) but surely it wouldn't take £350 worth of labour to fit them? What would you think is a reasonable figure?

Water Storage tank using large amounts of water
We bought this house about 3 months ago. The house is only about 12 years old. 2 years ago the owners put in a new boiler, but it is not a combi and they continued to use the cylinder hot water tank originally installed by the builders for hot water. Just before Christmas we suddenly had no hot water, although the heating…

£43k DMP?
Hi all I've done a budget with Stepchange and worked through £43k of debts (credit cards) - 0% balance transfers, yadda yadda, all got out of control. The budget has £410 per month to pay towards our debts. Overall question, is it best to do to a formal DMP through stepchange, or manage my own and dedicate efforts in…
