Any chance of HSBC fixed rate drop before end of 2025?
Hi all, I'm just coming out of a 5 year fix with HSBC at 1.59% - which ends on 31st December. I'm sticking with them and going with a 2 year fix. The rate is currently 3.99% (no fee) and I doubt it will drop further before I need to lock in, right? Should I just go do it now, or is it worth waiting a few more days?

Is a flat in a 4 storey building considered a high rise?
I'm in the process of remortgaging a Help To Buy leasehold flat. We've got a decent mortgage offer from our mortgage advisor and we decided to save time to go with the solicitor firm recommended by our mortgage advisor. Fee was around £800. However, when we sent specific details of our flat to our recommended solicitor…

Word: Issue where Word keeps saying to 'Save' even though have just saved it
Hi I'm having an issue with Word at work, when I save a document and then after saving on attempting to close it, it then comes up with the message box "Want to save your changes to 'document name?'", as though I am closing it WITHOUT saving it. If I then open the document, it has clearly been saved, but the message is…

HMRC estimated untaxed interest
This seemed the most appropriate forum to ask this. I received a letter today from HMRC saying that I had underpaid tax & owed about £1600 which they would collect over the next year. This has arisen based on their estimated amount of untaxed interest on about £3k. I pay income tax by PAYE & have no high earning…

Selling certificated shares
I've got a shareholding I want to sell (worth about £7.5K), and I have paper certificates. The registrar's fees (Link Asset Services) are, natch, rapacious. I used to have a Jarvis X-O account, so I now have a ii account costing me nothing to run (until January?). Is it worth looking for somewhere else to do this trade, or…

Coolant flushes & leak stops
Had a pretty decent idea on how to do a coolant flush, which I need to do on my car but chose to watch a Chris Fix YouTube video beforehand to just check & refresh myself. I was pretty much right except at the end of the video the guy puts in some anti rust solution. I Googled it & since I'm going to be using Wynns rad…

What Should I Do?
Hi! I'm at a crossroads, and not sure what to do for the best. I'm 45 I work full time I rent, and don't own any property. I'm paying 5% of my income into a workplace pension, but I've only been doing this since 2017 and the balance is £14k - obviously nowhere near enough to live on continuing at that rate even with…

TV License
Moved house Nov 2023. Got a letter from TV Licensing today 28 June 25 asking me if I needed a TV licence. I haven't had a license for about 4 years and told them every year at my old address. However when I go to the form to tell them I don't want a license it asks me to put in a future date ie when someone will be living…

Gifts from Income
Hi My mum passed away recently and as executor I'm completing the IHT400 form in order to claim her RNRB, her NRB and the transferable NRB and the RNRB from my Dad who predeceased her. Total estate value can therefore be £1 million before we owe IHT. I'm stuck on the gifts from income bit - IHT403 - my Mum gave my sibling…

Tesco Mobile pay-as-you-go customer? Be prepared: it may push you to buy a bundle
Tesco Mobile is pushing its pay-as-you-go (PAYG) users to move to its new bundles. Failure to do so means paying for Tesco Mobile's standard PAYG rates, which it's hiked by up to 213%. If you're one of the 1.4 million users affected, it's worth looking at switching to a cheap monthly Sim instead – unless you just keep your…

Is a taste card worth it?
Recently got an ad for tastecard. I had one years ago, but wondering if anyone has recently purchased/used one and if its worth the monthly £7.99 a month? Me and my kids eat out a lot but unsure whether I would use it.

Does this count as 2 DD's? for Nationwide switch
Looking to do a joint account Switch from Co op to Nationwide for the £175. Looks like a good account as we will get cash back on our spending. But does this count as 2 active Direct debits? Obviously papal is active, so that counts. The TV license comes out on the 1st Dec, but hasn't yet. The parent pay one I was going to…

Use of Probate Services
Has anyone used a Probate Service (fixed fee) that they would recommend? I've seen it's possible to do it yourself and I might have to if the fees are too high. There's no property or assets but there is about 100K cash.

County court Claim form, DCB legal, the airport pub Manchester
Hi All, Back in 2023 I parked and paid at the airport pub in Manchester. Some time after I started to receive those ridiculous looking debt collection letters saying “pay now” and “if you don’t pay, we’ll take it away”. I of course ignored those, but have recently received a letter of claim from DCBlegal (also ignored, I…

Warm house discount assessment period.
My son has received a letter advising him that he is eligible for the £150.00 warm house discount. Which I assume will be added to my energy bill. As it was last year. He claimed UC, whilst out of work. He has since found work, albeit as a relief post eg filling g in for sickness and leave. Since gaining employment he has…

Transfer Out Plum ISA
Has anybody successfully transferred out a Cash ISA from Plum? I initially opened an ISA with Cynergy Bank but as part of the account opening, Plum (Plum Fintech Ltd (Saveable Limited - FCA: 739214)), wasn't listed. I contacted Cynergy once the account was open, only to be told they only accept transfers from institutions…
