Prosperous and Creative Soul Year 5
Close to 4 years ago I finalised my divorce and completed on my biggest ever mortgage - £202K and switched from interest only between 2 of us to repayment on my own. I took the term for as long as I could - so 22 years - which means I would be 73.5 by the time I was actually free. Then I owed c£1.5K on a 0% but had a £2K…

MSE Form Poll: Do you usually buy supermarket own brand, branded or a mix?
At MSE we're big proponents of 'downshifting' on your grocery shop - swapping out premium / branded products for the store's own offerings. While it should work out better for your wallet, how many of us actually do regularly pick the supermarket versions over big name items? Vote in our poll, and let us know in the thread…

KFC pricing rip off
Recently purchased a family meal deal from KFC and wondered if anyone else had noticed the price differences. To collect the meal was £23 but for delivery it was £30 + £4 delivery and service charge. So when I asked what service I was receiving for the additional £7 I was fobbed off with some ridiculous reply which didn’t…

Anyone heard of HomeEnergy?
I'm with Octopus in a 3-bed semi. I was lucky enough to sign up for fixed dual fuel for 2 years in June 21. So this ends in 4 days time. I hardly use any gas at all ever. I won't be using much LX either until it gets cold in September. Most comparison sites appear to have decided to give up. Weird. However, I found one…

LDK Group PCN
Hello all, I'm in a hard position with a PCN and hoping for some help. The PCN attached is from LDK Group. Unfortunately I'm in the wrong. I was driving on a day I was experiencing hard events (partner split up with me, lost a job). And entered the private ANPR car park unthinkingly. There was clear signage everywhere as I…

IHT - How to make the 25% tax-free part of an AVC be classed as income?
From my reading it's not too clear what exactly HMRC classes as 'income' when dealing with IHT, however I understand that it's not the same as how HMRC classifies income for income tax purposes. Taking the 25% as one large lump sum I would imagine would not be seen as income from HMRC when assessing the against IHTM14250.…

HSBC Balance forecast tool
Does anyone know if this can be turned off in the HSBC app, it is absolutely useless and just takes up space on the home page and the account page. We have been with then around 45 years but this is really tempting me to move banks

How to sort my debt out?
Hello, I am in debt on credit cards (x2) and loans (x3) to the tune of £10,500. I am paying around £450 per month to pay these off. I do have around £500 left after I have paid all bills and debts, so while I am not destitute, these debts have become a constant worry. I have tried to get a loan to consolidate my debts as a…

Green, ethical, energy issues in the news

To ensure the thread remains on topic for forumites wanting to discuss the latest news we're asking that all posts contain a link to the news you're discussing. For the purposes of this thread the "news" needs to be within the…

"Home Energy" - curious why mentioned so little on this board...
When my lovely Sainsbury's Energy fix ended last November, I mentioned on here that I'd moved to (what I think is) a small supplier called Home Energy - they were offering their SVT slightly below cap, and over the past few months, it's all been absolutely fine. Today I got an email from them regarding the upcoming cut to…

Dreaming of being Debt Free
Hi. Like many people, I've been lurking in and out of these rooms and the main website, dreaming of being debt free. I've been living in debt since I went to uni. To put that into perspective, almost half my life. Ive tried many times, and come close, sometimes a run of bad lucks set me back, children being born, or…

National Parking Control - DCB LEGAL Claim 2026
Hi, I have followed the Newbies thread to the best of my knowledge and have now got to the stage where I am somewhat bamboozled, probably because of a mixture of litigation jargon and the potential court appearance looming (albiet miniscule chance based on other comments in this forum). A response to the "Letter of Claim"…

Appliance repair taking too long
Hi all I have a 2-year old Sharp heat pump dryer that developed a fault 3 weeks before the manufacturers warranty ended. Luckily I had purchased an extended warranty as the machine cost over £450. Seven weeks in, three engineer visits, four days taken off work, three new parts fitted, and two last minute cancelled engineer…

Bristol Airport 46 Stopping at a zone where stopping is prohibited.
Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me with your expertise. I received a CN from CVS from Bristol airport for stopping in a zone where stopping is prohibited. It was on 17/12/2025 and we received it on 21/01/2026 but dated 15/01/2026. We had pre-pаid parking in the silver zone but the sat nav took us to a silly place…

Battery Electric Vehicle News / Enjoying the Transportation Revolution
I thought a more specific thread/title might be useful for posting news on BEV's (and EV's in general), given that we have threads to discuss the minutia about EV ownership, but perhaps a thread just for the news might be useful. Disclaimer from the start, BEV news can easily become Tesla heavy, so posts, especially mine,…

One Touch Switch (POP Telecom)
Hi, Am I correct in thinking that under the one touch switch scheme I do not have to give the full 30 days leaving notice and I will not be charged any part of this fee for leaving before the 30 days is up? The CoT did come back and say £0 termination fees. My present ISP (pop telecom I know bad decision) is trying to…

In December we were all notified of which category we are in for either keeping our role…
