CINCH -CAR SELLERS

Anyone else had experience with CINCH-buying a car of them that they had had NOT checked paperwork/MOT history correctly ?

I purchased a car that i noted on the MOT history that the mileage had gone DOWN between two MOTs,i questioned this and was told it was before they had it and it was just a typo !!

Well a year on and i come to try and sell it and guess what-Motorway/WBAC/Carwow etc wont touch it due to the Discrepency on the MOT mileage !!!

So i go back to CINCH who eventually admit they should have caught this and Handled better at the time (will retrain its agents) wont help as i own the car ! after i badgered them they agreed to buy it back at far less than i can get with Motorway/WBAC/Carwow etc wont even match them at the average price.

So i am stuck with it or sell it back to them at a huge loss.

Trying to get mileage changed thru VOSA may take 8 weeks just to get a reply and may not work as i cant prove who made the mistake.

DONT assume CINCH do any basic due diligance and dont think you will get any support from them.

well selling a year old car with a car history with a red flag against it is always going to be difficult.

i Would say it’s worth exploring getting compensation on the basis the car was not as described.

hard to comment further without the full details.

Hi yes have told CINCH they sold a car that was not as described, but they just shut up shop and think they are being fair by accepting to buy it back at much less than market value🙄…

They just dont seem to have any moral values never mind legal ones

so just wanted to share the story of Woe that CINCH are not trustworthy and dont do basic checks which lead to the poor old buyer holding the baby

Why didn't you return it within their 14 day window if you weren't happy?

What is the discrepancy? Any chance it's a miles v km mix up - not the first time its happened.

    Hi GK0898

You may get more responses in the Motoring Forum rather than the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum, so I have asked admin to move it.

    Hope this helps

…well selling a year old car with a car history with a red flag against it is always going to be difficult…

But this isn't a year-old car so is that relevant?

This car has MOT history so it must be at least five years old, probably more.

didnt rtn it in 14 day window as took Cinchs advice it was just a typo and not a problem🙄 (lesson learned there)..

Mileage is 3000 miles difference from 1 mot fail test to Mot Pass ( 3 weeks later)…all this was 2-3 years before i bought the car from cinch.

now any car selling site wont touch it…So my question is WHY did Cinch buy and sell on ??

I don't know the history of your car but Cinch probably obtained it from auction. Alternatively they got it via WBAC (Cinch, WBAC and BCA are all the same group).

    From your opening post:

I purchased a car that i noted on the MOT history that the mileage had gone DOWN between two MOTs,i questioned this and was told it was before they had it and it was just a typo !!

    That's almost certainly correct.

Mileage is 3000 miles difference from 1 mot fail test to Mot Pass ( 3 weeks later)

So someone in the MoT place had fat fingers and hit eg. a 6 instead of a 9 on the number pad. No big deal for a private buyer, who understands that errors happen.

It's only a problem for you because you want to sell to WBAC etc. where their systems don't allow for mistakes like this.

Unless you have a service invoice from the same day or photo of the mileage dated then it will be pretty much impossible to get it changed. I've got a similar issue on my car but the error was over 15 years ago so no possibility to amend. In my case it was miskeyed digit that the previous owner didn't spot or just ignored but is obvious if you look at the history that it's not clocked

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

The criteria for getting MOT mileage errors changed is clearly specified…
    https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/correcting-mot-certificate-mistakes
Within 28 days - get the MOT test centre to sort it.
Outside 28 days - you need to do it centrally, and you need DATED PROOF ON THE DAY OF THE TEST… Now, obviously, you don't have that. So…

But one question - why didn't you notice it before buying the car? Didn't you check the car out yourself pre-purchase…?
