Expensive Car Suppliment-Additional rate VED
Hi, We purchased a car Sept 2025 which was £43,000 and at that time was subject to the additional VED charge. This luxury car limit was up-revised in November to £50,000. My road tax renewal has just landed and its a shocker at £640 for the year. I have read that this was retrospective and as we purchased after April 2025…

Hastings Direct demand for location data via their app
Hello all, Can anyone shed any light on the following? As far as I'm aware the policy I bought said nothing about this including in the terms and conditions  Note: my policy is not their telematics type named "Hasting Direct youdrive", it is actually their "top tier" policy called "Hastings Premier"

Looking for: Van or MPV for occasional day trips with dogs (£5k max, all-in)
Hi all, on the hunt for a vehicle to convert into a simple day van — used occasionally, not daily. Budget is £5k max, including the vehicle and any small mods, so looking for something realistic rather than showroom condition. Here's what we're after: Seating: Either 3 seats up front (no rear seats needed), OR 2 seats up…

My Diesel Claim - Pogust Goodhead
hi all, I signed up for the claim a few years back through Pogust Goodhead. I received their email on July 31st explaining the decision went against them but they will proceed with an appeal and I need to confirm I am happy to proceed as part of the appeal. I’m considering withdrawing from the process as it seems like an…

10 year old car but only registered with the DVLA this year?
I'm looking at changing my car soon and stumbled on a car that looked promising. When I checked the MOT history via the registration number it only has one MOT for Feb 2026 and only registered with the DVLA this year. Its a 2016 car with UK plates, can anyone suggest what could cause this?

Obscured Road Signs
I was just looking on Google Streetview to check a route and I came across this sign which is pretty much unusable. It's from 2025 so I have no idea if it's clear now but going back over previous years it seems to often be covered. Are there any major signs known of that are even worse?

Ford assist Problem
Hi, Everyone. Really hoping for some help please. We have FordAssist breakdown cover and yesterday they let us down badly. We broke down on A303 and phoned FordAssist. No mechanic came out at any stage. After some hours they sent a tow truck which took us to Salisbury, opposite direction to our travel and we were left…

Buying a used car with no V5??
Newbie here so please be gentle! I have found a car we like the look of from a small dealership. Price good, test drive all good. The MOT from May showed an advisory on the tyre tread, so the dealership agreed to change the tyre and service the car before sale as well as fixing an alloy that was grazed. Car passed the…

How do you know if DVLA sent you a fine?
Hi, I live in a block of flats where post gets hurled thru' the letter box and then dumped on top of the mail boxes. Often someone just chucks away a pile of it. Mail can easily be missed. How can you find out if you have any outstanding fines with DVLA? The following says how the roads are getting more fine-hungry…

Just sorting my wifes renewal and Yoga price was £237, up from £209 last year. next best was £213 with MSM. mot query
How do brake pads get checked/measured for MOT? My 2018 golf failed on worn pads below 1.5mm so it's been of the road a few days until I had time to get spares and fit them. Having replaced the pads none are excessively worn with a minimum of 5mm of braking material left and all evenly worn. I would hope it a mistake by…

Nanopolix!
I've just seen this on youtube. It looks fantastic! A normal looking microfibre cloth that you just wave over scratches and they disappear like A.I. generated video magic! They even tried it on a car with a rip & dent in the metal and the panel looked like brand new with just one wipe. Clearly we are being fleeced by…

Received text to contact Capital Resolve for fine I have already paid
Ok so I have always paid my Car tax religiously but the last few years because of poor health I haven't been using it much and it kept breaking down when I did. When my car tax came up for beginning of April 2026 I just naively thought it would just expire and that would be the end of it. I had moved a number of times and…
