UKPC Fined for not parking in bay

IMG_2976.jpeg IMG_2977.jpeg IMG_2978.jpeg

Hi all,

I've received a parking charge letter from UKPC for the commuter car park at the Broadwalk Centre in Edgware. It says the car was "not parked correctly within the markings of the bay." It came by post, and there was no ticket on the windscreen.

The car was in the bay and reversed back as far as it could go. There's a grass verge and a tree at the back that leaned into the bay, which stopped it going further, so the front wheel ended up on the front line. It wasn't blocking any other bays or the one-way road in front.

UKPC's front photo shows the tree behind the car, but their back photo conveniently cuts it out, and there's no side photo.

I plan to appeal but was wondering if there was anything I could say or do they could help me in this matter?

Thanks everyone.

  • do you can you get a picture of the tree as it looks to me as though you could have easily moved the car back at least 12 iniches if not 18.

I'm very careful, as I have two big cars, and one of them is close to 15 feet long and only too aware of these parking outfits about "park in marked bays.

Of course you can challgne it but if I was you, I'd take picks of taking your car back and if/when possible show them that you car was only and inch or two from the tree; that should do it.

However, let the experts here guide you as they are very, very good.

    Good luck

Clearly their rules are not the same as football or tennis in regards to what constitutes being over the line!

I reckon this could even be won at POPLA because that isn't outside of the bay.

I don't think its so much the issue of the distance to the tree trunk but the fact that large roots have raised the paving and extended into and lifted the asphalt in the parking space (see first photo) and you would be concerned about damaging the underside of the car.

  • thanks for the advice everyone, appealed with ukpc first but heard they basically reject every appeal so won’t be shocked when that happens. I guess POPLA will be the real appeal?

Not really don't hold any hopes there they will find any excuse to side with their paymasters. But I would try as C-M has stated above, don't get too upset if they reject it though.

The "Real Appeal " is actually any future Money Claim because that is where these tend to be decided, or more likely to be discontinued, so closure

PS, nobody was fined ! Just sent an invoice
