The Best Is Yet To Come
The Best Is Yet To Come - or so the front cover of my new diary says. I normally hang out in the debt free wannabes, but as I have had my diary on there for almost 10 year (yes the same diary), and have been debt free since April 2018 I thought it was time to migrate over to the mortgage free wannabe area. Please be gentle…

Solicitor held my money for 20 years should I get interest on top of the capital amount
My solicitors who acted in conveyance for me in a sale of my property just contacted me. They found they had accidentally withheld a significant amount of money on my file/account - unbeknown to me. They rang me to ask for my details to pay me the amount. After confirming it was the solicitors and not a scam they took my…

Parking fine appeal rejected – accident while parked – any recourse?
Hi all, I recently received a PCN for overstaying in a privately managed, ANPR-controlled car park (max stay 180 minutes). While my vehicle was parked, another driver crashed into it. I stayed at the scene as required by law to attempt to exchange details, but the other driver refused to cooperate. I had to report the…

Car Finance VS ISA
Morning all, I'm looking for a bit of a sense check / advice please. I've currently got a car with a PCP finance deal, roughly 18 months in, 8.9% APR I'm also now at the point where my savings (ISA/emergency/S&S) collectively add up to almost exactly the settlement amount for the car. The payments are manageable but would…

Moorside Legal - Claim2
Hi MSE, Received Court papers against Moorside Legal - this is the second one I have been issued. Below is a photo of the claim form. My partner opened the letter and is extremely concerned that, following this route, we will be worse off should we loose the fight. I have advised her that I don't want to pay these…

Inflation Linked Gilt T30I. Is it worth it?
Is the ILG T30I worth it? According to Gilts Yield: Par: £100 Index ratio: 3.01776 Accured interest: £1.014 Clean price: £343.99 Dirty price: £345.004 (£100 (par value) x 3.01776 (index ratio)) + £1.014 (accured interest) = £302.79 Difference between dirty price and above: £42.21. Does this mean I'm paying a £42.21 premium…

Green Flag or AA?
My AA renewal is due £145, contacted them and this is the best they can do, Green Flag is half that price. What are Green Flag like? I know they do not have their own fleet of mechanics like the AA and RAC do.

Two mortgage advice
My son has a mortgage on two properties. He splits his time between both as dictated by work. He is currently overpaying on the larger of the two and will in time rent out the second property. I believe he has a 80% mortgage on this property. What is the best way to avoid capital gains on the second property?

Streaming costs add up fast. Let us know how many streaming services your household currently pays for, or whether you prefer to rotate them instead of keeping several at once.

FSCS protection limit
Apologies if this is a stupid question but it’s something I thought about today and not sure about the answer! Lets say I had amassed £300k in a stocks & shares ISA over a broad spread of investments with (for example) AJ Bell and AJ Bell go out of business. Am I still only covered up to £120k? I understand that the FSCS…

Are UK take-home calculators too complicated?
I’m trying to understand whether people prefer simple tax calculators or detailed ones. I built a stripped-back prototype to explore this and would appreciate critique. Thanks in advance.

IHT411 Listed stocks and shares
I understand stocks and shares ISA will need to be included in IHT411. How about if the S&S ISA is a discretionary managed porfolio containing lots of different funds? Just wondering how to deal with that..

Cash ISA - Interest 'paid away' loses tax free status?
The West Brom Building Soc offers a fixed rate cash ISA @ 4.56% until Nov 27. I would like to take the monthly interest earned, on the deposit/capital, and have it paid into my current account with a high st bank to help with monthly expenses. The T&Cs say that 'paying away' the interest means it will lose its tax free…

Teachers Pension Scheme and CPI increase
Hi, My wife will be taking her pension this Friday (10th April) which is obviously after the 6th April when the 3.8% rise applies. I understand that any rises when the pension is in payment will have their first increase apportioned. As her pension was NOT in payment on 6th April 2026, and I assume she was still a deferred…
