Ill Health Works pension AND self employed wasn’t paying NI contributions, can I buy them now?
I’m aged 67 now, retired from work on “ill health” round about 2000 and was in receipt of workplace pension so no NI contributions were taken, although I believe that me being in receipt of Incap Ben at that time covered my credits. Around 2006/2007 I decided to come off the benefit and try to work, not necessarily for…

Voluntary Contributions for the tax year in which I reach State Pension Age?
Today I rang HMRC to obtain my reference number to pay Voluntary Class 3 for the last four contribution years. No problem. Answered within 15 minutes (I rang at just after 08.00). It is exactly what I was expecting it to be. However, the advisor agreed my figures and gave me the number, but then he told me I could increase…

Voluntary NI contributions
My husband reaches state retirement age in 2025. His NI record shows he has 38 years of full contributions, but his pension forecast states that to get his full forecasted pension he needs to make continue to make contributions until he reaches retirement age. We understood that 35 years full contributions were sufficient…

Voluntary NIC to top up state pension
My sympathy with all who - like I was for weeks - failing to get through to HMRC for advice on this topic and then receive advice. Keep trying, an 18 digit reference number will be given to you when you speak to someone. Armed with this number, HMRC sort code and account number (and amount to pay for the 4 years of NIC I…

Voluntary NI contributions
My wife is short of 7 years NI contributions to get the full new State Pension and we are going to plug the gaps by buying years. During the years that she has no NI contributions, she was self employed as a Childminder on low income/low profit and hence exempt from paying National Insurance. In hindsight we should have…

Is it worth me topping up NI contributions
Wonder if there are any experts who can advise. I will be 65 in September, I retired from the civil service at age 60 with 42 years NI contributions , opted out of SERPS. My current pension forecast is £165.13 If I pay NI up until pension age forecast is £176.78 , i am assuming that would be two financial year payments of…

Missing NI years due to University
I’ve just checked and I have a gap from 1996 -1998 in my NI because I was at uni full time. It’s too long ago for me to pay these years back. Now I’m worried I won’t get a full pension when I retire. I don’t have a great work pension because I have multiple pots which can’t be merged from different employers which are not…

Voluntary NI Contributions: DWP re-assessment
I recently paid for 3 years NI contributions and these are now showing on my records. My understanding is that HMRC now advise DWP to re-assess my pension. Does anyone know how long this usually takes?

Pre pay national insurance?
I'm 56 and have full national insurance qualification years. I've checked and there are no gaps. If I stop working now, will I still be entitled to the full state pension even though I will not have paid anymore contributions in the next 11yrs?! Or could/should I pay contributions even if I'm not working?

Confused! - Should I make lump sum payment now or defer to spring 2025?
After about 50 attempts, I finally got through to the Future
Pension Centre about a month ago. To be fair, the lady I spoke to was extremely helpful and
walked me through my options. I’m around 9 years away from state pension age. I was contracted out while working for my sole
employer, so although I’ve got 34 years of…

Official record says I have 9 years of contributions but only lists 6?
I'm a slightly unusual situation as I began work in the UK in late 2008 and left work in mid 2013, so my NI record shows full year contributions for 2008 through 2013 as expected (6 years listed) but states in the summary at the top that I have 9 years of full contributions. Since it may be a while before I can…

State Pension.
My 75 year old mother has worked for 20 years. She started working after she divorced my father. She had child benefit in her name so it would count towards her state pension. She was 23 when she had me and had three children in total. She is still working in the NHS. The pension people have told her she is not entitled to…

I am just about to pay voluntary pension contributions for last 4 years before the deadline in July. I am also curious if there are any benefits of paying more apart from the upcoming pension contributions for each year.

Additional NICs payment to pay for missing years
In November 2022 I asked for a printout of my NI record. It
arrived a couple of weeks later. Attached to the covering letter was a form to
pay for missing years (which I had). After seeing Martin’s programme, it reminded me to send the form in (on
the 24th of Feb 2023) with a cheque covering 4 additional years. (The
reason…
