Hi,

Wondering could someone help me please?
I am wishing to make a voluntary tax contribution but I can never get through on the phone number- 0800 731 0175.

I just find it highly frustrating that I'm trying to pay them but no one will answer my call. I can only get through so far on the phone and it automatically hangs up on me.

I have 4 years not in full, however these are the years I was at university and was only working part time so I never would have reached the threshold to be able to pay more tax? I want to let them know first to see does it change my state pension forecast.

Have you any advice on this? Or can you give another number to call?

I can only call at certain times of the day so it's frustrating when you can never get through.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

    In general, the majority of people out there are likely to be able to reach the maximum new State Pension amount without having to fill every year available to them - the only ones that aren't are probably those already past or very close to State Pension Age who were contracted out for most of their working lives (and for them, their university years are probably likely to be earlier than those still available to buy).

    To comment on your particular case, we'd need some detail on what your individual forecast actuallly says ?
    Check your State Pension forecast - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

    So;
    • What is the headline forecast amount that you can eventually achieve ?
    • What is your current forecast and is it as at April 2022 or April 2023 ?
    • How many years do you have available going forward before you reaches state pension age ?
    • How many full NI years do you have prior to April 2016 ?
    • How many full NI years do you have after April 2016 ?
    • What past years are not full ?
    • Do you have a COPE amount and if so what is it (if you do, the forecast will say something like 'at some point in the past you have been contracted out', and there will be a link you can click to give you the actual amount).
