Missing NI years due to University
I’ve just checked and I have a gap from 1996 -1998 in my NI because I was at uni full time. It’s too long ago for me to pay these years back. Now I’m worried I won’t get a full pension when I retire. I don’t have a great work pension because I have multiple pots which can’t be merged from different employers which are not…

Pre pay national insurance?
I'm 56 and have full national insurance qualification years. I've checked and there are no gaps. If I stop working now, will I still be entitled to the full state pension even though I will not have paid anymore contributions in the next 11yrs?! Or could/should I pay contributions even if I'm not working?

Confused! - Should I make lump sum payment now or defer to spring 2025?
After about 50 attempts, I finally got through to the Future
Pension Centre about a month ago. To be fair, the lady I spoke to was extremely helpful and
walked me through my options. I’m around 9 years away from state pension age. I was contracted out while working for my sole
employer, so although I’ve got 34 years of…

Official record says I have 9 years of contributions but only lists 6?
I'm a slightly unusual situation as I began work in the UK in late 2008 and left work in mid 2013, so my NI record shows full year contributions for 2008 through 2013 as expected (6 years listed) but states in the summary at the top that I have 9 years of full contributions. Since it may be a while before I can…

My 75 year old mother has worked for 20 years. She started working after she divorced my father. She had child benefit in her name so it would count towards her state pension. She was 23 when she had me and had three children in total. She is still working in the NHS. The pension people have told her she is not entitled to…

Additional NICs payment to pay for missing years
In November 2022 I asked for a printout of my NI record. It
arrived a couple of weeks later. Attached to the covering letter was a form to
pay for missing years (which I had). After seeing Martin’s programme, it reminded me to send the form in (on
the 24th of Feb 2023) with a cheque covering 4 additional years. (The

Grandparent Topup's - Specified Adult Childcare Credits
My wife is 62 and shy of a full state pension by 4 years. We will be topping up but obviously would like to pay as little as possible. Our grandson was born end of 2019 and even during covid she has been looking after him. Our daughter-in-law apparently only got SMP and didn't get enough to pay NI or tax. We have tried to…

Is it possible to top up when I am a non resident.
Before spending hours on the phone etc I thought (hoped) someone may know the answer to this. I have been resident in Austria for 2 years, my UK pension is a couple of years short on contributions due to not working for the last 10 years or so and I think some time contracted out. So is it possible for me to buy these…

Can’t add NICs. Is it possible to make voluntary NICs in future years.
My wife is receiving her state pension of £186.39/week, she was 67 last
year. She has 32 years of full contributions, the most recent missing year is
1995/6 so is unable to pay for any missing years. Can she make voluntary
contributions for this tax year and subsequent ones in order to achieve a full
state pension?

Topping up NI contributions after working abroad
My state retirement date is Dec 2028. I have been working and paying tax in Gibraltar for the past 7 years and I understand that I may be able to use time spent abroad to make up the missing years of NI (showing as 6 on Government Gateway). Has anybody done this and if so, can you tell me how I go about it?
