CF83 processing time reduced by 4.5 months in 2 weeks.

Hi,
Submitted a CF83 several months ago and 2 weeks ago the online tool was saying expected reply by end November 2023 but today it says expected reply in a few days time. Is it possible that this is correct and they have cleared around 4.5 months of backlog in 2 weeks or is the tool completely wrong? I don’t see how this is possible unless they have recruited and trained an army of workers or maybe they are using those who were answering the self-assessment helpline before it closed for summer?

My son submitted his CF83 ( Non EU) in September 2022. Start of last week it said reply expected by 4th July and they were dealing with post from 29th August. Tried again on Thursday and it said he should have received a reply in January 2023!
I've asked on HMRC Community Forums but yet to receive a reply.0 -

Now moved from 4th July expected reply to 18th July. He used their online chat yesterday and they’re saying 44 weeks to receive a reply.0
