Best way to get to Lord's cricket ground from Solihull at peak time
We (2-3 adults plus 1 student) need to be at Lord's Cricket Ground at 10am on a Friday morning in couple of weeks. Usually we would use the Chiltern Railways to travel from Solihull into Marylebone but the fares are astronomical (around £75 per adult). I have played around with split ticketing or driving part of the way…

Why is train travel so expensive in the UK?
A return ticket to my place of work costs about £30 per day. I can also get a Flexi ticket which lets me do 8 journeys in a 30-day period at a cost of £221. I am based in the Midlands. I was in Budapest recently and their public transport system was world class. Regular buses (with digital signage at every stop). The trams…

Santander Cycles day pass
The new(ish) day pass for Santander cycles is working quite well when there's a sunny couple of days, as it can cover essentially 1.5 day commute if you can be a bit flexible with times. Ride to work day 1, from work day 1, ride to work day 2 if you leave slightly earlier ie within 24 hours of when you picked up the first…

MSE Recently Recommended Trainpal
I followed MSE recommendation from last month in order to save £10 on the OAP Railcard. Oooops - what a mistake! I've just wasted 4 hours of my life trying to book a train ticket - the phone app (which you have…

Pass plus or similar things are they worth it?
I have been driving for 9 years but not many miles just once or twice a week dropping my son off and a few longer trips. I am thinking of doing pass plus - partly because I want to do some longer trips abroad and I want to make sure that my skills are good. Are they worth it?
