Trainpal MSE Promotion
I have tried registering my wife for a senior citizen’s rail card. I have entered her details for the Money Saving Experts offer. The problem I have is that when you complete the application you have to supply either passport, drivers license or EAU id details. My wife has epilepsy so no licence. She has numerous health issues so no international travel means no passport. She has a senior citizen’s bus pass which is not acceptable. Because I have entered the MSERC code I cannot use it again for a standard rail card. It would be sensible if Trainpal mentioned the requirements for formal id on the first page. There must be many senior citizens with the same problems. I have treid calling numbers mentioned on their website but none of them work. Managed to email them waiting for a reply to see if her bus pass would be acceptable.

I really wouldn't bother with the Trainpal deal. I think it locks you into buying tickets through them and is a bit of a swizz.

Looking at the Railcard site (not Trainpal) there doesn't seem to be any variation from the ID document requirement that you've already mentioned.
Railcards are available to buy in person at station ticket offices, I'm sure the official response would be as stated in the rules but might a friendly ticket office person accept a bus pass? No MSE (or any other) discount tho'.

Regardless of the particular issue, MSE should really do some due diligence on the companies they promote to avoid adverse association and reputational damage.
For railcards and buying tickets Trainpal are one company I would avoid.

There's a contact option on their website to use if you have any issues that aren't covered.

Looking at the official Railcard site above you just need to provide proof of eligibility e.g. a blue badge, or a letter of diagnosis of the epilepsy and proof of medication, and a passport style photograph.
If you're applying online you need to be able to upload digital copies - I can't see any requirement for ID e.g. passport or driving licence and there's nothing obvious in the FAQs.
But obviously... No discount, unless there's a way of regenerating the code? Second email address?

it doesn’t lock you into buying tickets through them. I bought a senior railcard and activated it with a 35p ticket. I’m now free to book my tickets with any rail company. I took a screenshot of the railcard but I don’t think I’ve ever been asked to produce it.

Really? Us train nerds have always claimed that Baglan to Port Talbot Parkway at 80p (without a railcard) was the UK's cheapest single fare. What's your cheaper one?

Looking at the receipt, the ticket price was £1.35 but they applied a £1 discount voucher

Buying via cashback site they have been fine for me, I only use them for work travel and have had no issues personally, tickets are emailed quickly. Not tried a railcard mind
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
