Rail Split Tickets (Trainpal) - What happens if one train is delayed?
Hi all
I'm thinking to use a Trainpal ticket that will require 3 changes. Each leg is a different train company. Just wondered what happens if say the first one was delayed meaning I was late for the second and third?
Many thanks

For most purposes you will have the same rights as if you had one through ticket.
Were all the tickets issued in a single booking? Meaning you have a continuous itinerary covering all legs of the journey? If so, this may make it easier to exercise your rights in the event of running into problems, but is not strictly needed.

My usual understanding of a split ticket is where you stay on the same train but save money by buying 2 or more separate tickets.
In your case you seem to have a split journey involving transferring from one train to another.
When I've done this and a delay on the first train has resulted in me missing the other I've easily claimed by DelayRepay for the inconvenience.

Many thanks for the replies.
I've not bought it yet, but yes all tickets would be part of a single booking. And yes, it's the separate/different connecting trains.
In all honesty, I wouldn't be too worried about compensation (although wouldn't say no either!). My only worry was not being able to board train two or three if train one or two was delayed. And then being stranded or forced to buy a super expensive on the spot ticket.
If that's not the case then that's great :)
Many thanks for the help

I did a single order, albeit not split ticketing, from 1 place to another with 2 different firms, the first train was delayed significantly meaning I missed the second one, I put in the delay repay for the first firm but they were all on 1 receipt, I ended up with a repayment of the second journey (a local one, a few stops) and the refund from the first.
I had another one where the first (local train to main station) was cancelled due to some line issue so I had to get a lift into the main station, I cancelled the first one for a refund, and had a delay on the second one so did a delay repay and they ended up refunding me for both as well so I had to get them to give me their bank details to repay the first ticket that they refunded to me twice!
I believe both were booked via a train firm not via an app even though they were 2 different operators
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

if you still haven't bought the tickets use Trainsplit (UK based) not Trainpal (a company based overseas with a very poor record of understanding UK rail fares).

Thanks for that. I'll definitely remember that for next time, but I have my ticket now from trainpal. Starting to wonder now if that's a problem and I won't get home!
