Advance ticket alterations
Hi. I often travel by train and try to book well in advance for long journeys so go for the cheaper advance option. I usually book through Cross Country but it seems since they introduced their app (which imo doesnt work very well) they also seem to have altered the rules. I used to be able to amend the train to another time or day up to 15 mins before travelling. Now it seems it needs to be done before 6pm the night before. I was wondering if anyone is aware of other train companies and what their rules are and how easy it is to change to another day / time on an advance ticket. Thanks for any help

I usually buy rail tickets using either Trainsplit or Trip.
The conditions vary, but as a general rule any change involves payment of a ten pound fee plus the fare difference.0 -
I think it's the same for LNER, and there is possibly quite a short timeframe in whcih yo uare allowed to do this for Advance tickets (I've only had to do it once when I realised an hour or two afterwards that my onward connections didn't work out

On the cross country one it was free to amend and could do so until 15 mins beforehand. That's why I always used them but that's gone now. Just wondered if the other rail companies all charge. I know Northern Rail charge a small fee to amend but can only amend time not date
