Council Tax Bands Challenge
I have a neighbour (right next door) who is paying a lower banded Council Tax than me and I challenged unsuccessfully. I now know I wasted my time for one simple element. I purchased my house from people that had lived here for 30 years. The key point is that if your house has not been sold since around 1991 then no stats…

Can I claim PPI on mortgage?
I have finally decided to make a claim for my mortgage PPI. It is nearly 20 years I have been paying the premium and as this payment was simply rolled into my mortgage payment I think I have a case. The article talks about getting your payments back +8% interest. Any idea how this is calculated? Having got a calculator out…

Late Mortgage Payment fees reclaim
Ages ago there was a link to a Scottish advice centre regarding reclaiming late motgage payments. Over the last 5 years, due to GE Money refusing to change my payment date by 4 days without charging huge interest payments, I have paid late by 4 days every month. They have sent me a letter saying they are going to add these…

Track deceased assets
Hi all, I would appreciate any information on an organisation that can trace all assets belonging to my wife's father. Sadly, there is no will and the widower left all the finances to her late husband. There is no mortgage and the house is in joint names so we are ok with the house. However, my mother In law was told by…

No Work for 9 Months/Council Tax Rebate
Hi I have been out of work for 9 months. I initially tried to create my own business but it didn't really work, and I've now had to sign on. Could I get a council tax rebate for the entire 9 months? I'm currently paying 90 quid a month. Thanks PennyPincher3562

Dear All, I'm very new on this site and was just hoping to ask for some guidance. My husband and I divorced 10 years ago however prior to that we took out a mortgage jointly through Standard Life Bank Limited. PPI for life policy on Northern Rock mortgage
Hi, I have a pre-existing medical condition and I was sold a life/accident/sickness/redundancy policy by a broker when I took out my Northern Rock mortgage. I have now seen the light and made different arrangements, but wonder whether I could have made a claim anyway given my medical condition (I've twice been refused an…

Confused about council tax abbreviations
Hi, could anyone help me in making sense of my council tax account breakdown. I asked for the breakdown from the last 15 years to be sent to me because I have realised they have made a mistake with my reference number and I have been overpaying. The problem is I do not understand what the abbreviations mean on the account…

Council tax check - neighbours bands have been deleted
I tried to compare my council tax band with that of my neighbours but for most of their properties it says 'deleted' where it would have the band. Does anyone know why this might be?

Plevin and mortgage indemnity insurance charges
Does anyone have a considered opinion on this issue? Will the recent ruling in Plevin v Paragon Personal Finance (failure to reveal commission payments) have an impact on mortgage indemnity insurance charges? A few years ago MII used to be levied as a matter of course by the mortgage provider without and discussion or…

can I reclaim PPI sold on loans from a 'private company i.e. not a bank
We had loans from a company some years ago and they wouldn't let us have a loan unless we took out PPI and also bought such things as breakdown cover etc! We were quite clueless at the time and just needed the loan so signed up. Can this now be reclaimed or is only the banks that you can claim from? Thanks

AXA life insurance complaints
Sadly my mother passed away in 2012 and I claimed her policy off AXA life insurance. I got a measly couple of hundred 221 pounds to be precise. However when I looked at my mothers bank statements she'd been paying around 80 pounds a month on previouslife insurance policies to them for years. When I questioned them about…

Pc world / currys rentsmart
Hello, I took out a laptop 5 days ago with pc world/ currys and only discovered today that the lease is through rent smart and everything I can find on them is for business' only, which I don't have. Are they just a business lease company? Or do they do private (consumer) leases too? I've seen many horror stories plus I…

Council Tax debt from 13 years ago.
I'm being pursued by the council for non-payment of council tax 13 years ago. I've started paying off the debt, £900, but have about 2 years to go. But this morning, they want a further sum of money, £100, for a liability order sent 13 years ago. I cannot pay any more money to the council just yet as it will cause me…

Last minute mortgage lender switch
Hi, I'm in the process of buying a house, and after almost 4 months we're now only a couple may be three weeks aways from signing papers. I have a mortgage lender, they have approved the loan amount and their surveyor has approved the property is worth the asking price. However, I've been keeping an eye out for better…

CCS - cold calling scam
I just received a cold call (on my TPS registered number) from someone at CCS telling me that my mortgage had been mis-sold. He went into the spiel about all these reasons why it had been missold (none of which were actually truthful - such as brokers being required to give the best mortgage available - they are not…
